I personally kind of like the fact it uses AI art. I would hate it in almost every case, but in this context, it just feels as if AI is a reflection of the real world. AI images at the time were just chaotic squiggles that vaguely resembled real world. This feels coherent with the game themes. Take the old man in the first paintin: "The real me is thousand of mile away from me". He is just the distorted projection of something else. I feel like this particular case makes AI acceptable, especially considering it is old AI, when it wasn't as developed and revoltingly "neat" as now.
