Cool game! I love the style of the game. The gameplay is simple and nice.

I played your game, put a rating and left a comment. I appreciate you for playing my game!

Cool submission! I loved the art drawn on paper, it evokes a nostalgic feeling.  The gameplay is simple which fits the theme.

I played your game, left a comment for feedback and rating. Thanks for playing our game <3

This is a fun little mini-game. I enjoyed playing it. Feedback: The "Speed up" voice may get annoying if you hear it repeatedly. I suggest replacing that with like a non-voice sound effect. But that is just me nitpicking details. Overall good job!

Hi thank you for your feedback :D

There is a settings menu when you pause the game to turn down the volume and music. I should probably mention that in the game's description.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. I am happy you enjoyed the game ❤️
It is really rare that the enemies spawn on the outside, like it never happened to me during the 50 hours I spent developing it. If they do spawn outside, the grenade can actually be thrown outside the walls to blow them up.

The customisations on the game are cool! I feel like the thing that is missing is sound effects and music to make the game more satisfying to customise. But the submission is cool so great job.

The art is cute and the customisations were nice. I also enjoyed gobbling the fishes in the sea.

Unrelated to the voting criteria, but sometimes you can get stuck on these fishes and its difficult to turn away from them.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah I agree that the gameplay is lacking in terms of variety but we did what we could in the time that we had. Originally the game did not even had any bosses 👀

As for gameplay mechanics, we wanted to keep the game simple to avoid scope creep.

(1 edit)

Thank you for your feedback :D Simpler Times = Return to MONKE!

We tried balancing the amount of enemies with the player's attack power and found it to be easy to beat, but not boring to beat. The game is not challenging by any means, but a sense of danger was what we were going for with the enemy count. Some stages required different strategies to beat, and good timing of your abilities.

Hi thank you for your feedback :D

If we had more time to polish the game more, we would create a more visible indicator for the enemy spawns so that the player can see where they are spawning from. Getting swarmed though, is part of the game 😂

wow you cleared the stages without the abilities. Pure skill 👀

Dash was in the ideas for the games, as it would open more opportunities for different styles of play, but the scope creep ... 😔

ahah for my next game I'll add an option to reduce/turnoff camera shake. I think I just played the game too much that I grew used to the shake. Thanks for the feedback ❤️

Hi I've encountered that bug before. I am actually not sure why that happens. My suspicions is that when you die on the modern stage, and replay the game, only 19 enemies spawn. I am unsure as why that is the case, as it works fine for every other era. If that happens to you, just refresh the game 😅

Hi thanks for playing the game and giving us your feedback!

To reply, yes we used multiple different assets for the different eras. That was done to save us a lot of time 😅

As for the main character killing everyone, they just REALLY REALLY wanted to return to simpler times 🤣We made the story goofy on purpose.

The artwork and visual style are great. But damn I am absolutely trash at precision platformers. The dash mechanic reminds me of playing celeste. I felt that when dashing for the green orbs, I had to be too precise or I would end up failing the jumps. I wish the hitboxes were larger on them. Otherwise this is a cool submission.

ah thank you lmao. Ill retry your game.

Hi I left a rating on your game with a comment. If you could try my game and provide feedback, that would be appreciated👌: https://yoloarts.itch.io/return-to-monke

Hi this game is cool! Reminded me of playing asteroids, that I went and played it for nostalgia.

Feedback:

Left click for shoot and arrow keys for movement feels uncomfortable. I suggest remapping the controls to something more conventional (wasd for movement, left click for shoot) or (arrow keys to move, space bar to shoot) etc.

Could not figure out what the "Load" bar meant in the top left.

The amount of asteroids is crazy 😭

Overall great submission and brought me nostalgia. Good work.

I played your game, left a rating and comment. Cool game!

Pretty cool game. Died on that yellow boss :(

Its a solid submission and I thought it was creative how you twisted space invaders to have upgrades. Great job :D

Hi I left a rating on your submission with feedback :D Thanks for trying out my game!

This is a cool game! I wish the upgrades came more often since the difficulty rises really quick. That way I would be able to check out more of what upgrades this game has.

Also there should definitely be a short description on each of the upgrades so I know what they do. I selected EMP pulse but I had no idea what that did. (fill huge blank areas underneath the upgrade names)

Overall a solid game :D

Hey I'm struggling with the first cutscene. Regardless of what button I press (every button on my keyboard, left click/right click), it wont let me progress and I am stuck. I am playing on browser.

Ah yes the good ending...

I tried your game. It was cool.

As for the difficulty of game development... Making your first game is always the hardest. As you create more, the process becomes easier as you learn to streamline the workflow.

An interesting game. The duck mini-game though 😭😭

I was really confused with what I had to do the whole game. But a good submission.

I tried your game and left my feedback on your submission page 👍

Hi I tried your game. Its pretty cool. I had the same problem as MincDev that I did not know how to kill the flower boss. I think using audio and creating a clearer visual that the boss is vulnerable will make it easier to tell the player that they need to attack now, coz i spent a lot of time attacking the boss and getting damaged for being too close. I also think some background music would help the game more as it feels lifeless without it. Nonetheless, cool submission!

I played your game. Its pretty cool.
My team also did a game with monkeys, so if you like monkeys: https://yoloarts.itch.io/return-to-monke

Cool monkey game!

Lol I loved fruit ninja as a kid and this game brought me some nostalgia. Great game submission!

Hi we do not have a download version of Return to Monke yet, but I will add one now.
I tried your game and left a comment. Cool submission!

Thanks for the feedback.
We aimed to create the game on the easy side to be a casual game, but you're right about creating more challenging enemies.
Originally the game had 5 HP (compared to the current 10HP). I changed it to be easier after seeing some of the playtesters struggle to complete a single era 😭

Totally join a team. I recommend it.

Lol getting sucked into the black hole was funny. Great game! The retro aesthetic was well executed.

I loved this game! I left a comment and rated your game <3

Haha I love the theme interpretation of this game. I totally understand the feeling of playing games while "sleeping". Great submission!

Great first submission! I left a comment on your game with feedback.

Ah I replayed the game and noticed what you meant. I think I was too focused when I played it that I didn't notice. I think it's quite subtle at the moment though. Could go with a visual cue on top of an audio cue.
