I first discovered Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land at the Midwest Gaming Classic, where I had the chance to meet one of the devs, genuinely one of the nicest and most passionate creators I've come across. I even brought my FPGA Game Boy with the game loaded on it to show him, and he was super cool about it. It was an awesome moment that perfectly reflects the spirit behind this project: creative, nostalgic, and full of heart.

The game itself is a delightful 8-hour JRPG steeped in the style and soul of the Game Boy Color era. It’s got quirky characters, fun spellcasting, potion brewing, and a totally unique take on competitive trick-or-treating (yes, really). It nails that late ‘90s Halloween vibe, both visually and musically, and if you grew up with Pokémon, Dragon Warrior Monsters, or early Zelda handhelds, this one will hit you right in the childhood.

You can really feel the love and care that went into every part of the game, from the writing to the pixel art to the music. It doesn’t try to be flashy or modern; instead, it fully embraces the charm of retro design, and it totally works.

Whether you're into indie games, classic JRPGs, or just want to enjoy something handmade and nostalgic, give the free browser demo a shot. You might end up as enchanted by Trick-or-Treat Land as I was.

hahaha Thank you but just simply made assets for developers and people learning to develop. You guys are awesome.

Of course, donations are optional. I would rather see more GB games made than to receive donations!

I had to wait for a new battery to come in for my flash cart but I am excited to try out your game, as well as anyone's, and pull out my dmg game boy and my new funny playing fpga. Thanks btw, flattered you felt my work was worth using in your work. :}

Sweet! Will do. Thank you. :)

I tried the game, no workie. :< Looked neat.

Wanted to try it out, gray screen :< Looks super cool tho.

I be sad :( I have a multi monitor setup and displays weird. Looks cool tho!

Cool game! :)

"It doesn't have to be like this..." Haha this is pretty cool. Thank you! :)

Wow, this is pretty rad. I can tell a lot of work and care went into this. Thank you!

I will have to test this and start this project again. Thank you.

I am also having this error, which is too bad. :( haha

Thank you! :) The forth one down, with the bun, would be a "Pokeman" style character.

I'm not sure. I did base them heavily on actual games. Basically I looked at the games and recreated them, there are some minor tweaks and I did add things that do not exist in the actual games (Like different type eyes). So, with that in mind, I do no care how anyone use them. Sorry I don't really have an answer for your question. :/

Thank you! That really means a lot. :)

In the membrane?

Thank you for the kind words. :) I often think of the days of using street lights at night to see my Game Boy. Today, it is amazing to to see a great part of my childhood coming back, and I am sure many others feel the same. I hope to add as many NEW Game Boy games to my collection as possible, whether it has my work in it or not. Again, thank you for your kind words. :)

Thanks. I am going to continue to make tweaks over time and add other retro game based sprites to the list. Hoping to help game developing just a little easier for others. :)

It should be 100,000 "player" body types and 100,000 "elderly" body types. Basically better chance of assortment and people not using the exact same sprites.

Okay, this is awesome.

Neat! Reminds me of a game that would have released on the Dreamcast.

I really enjoyed this! Remided me of my childhood playing Jet Set. Keep up the amazing work!
