Omg such a detailed review! Thanks so much! This is a dev for the game btw :P Really cool to see people enjoy the game like this. Here's my response to your questions:

1. I guess we really liked how controlling where you want the light felt like part of figuring out each puzzle. We were considering having a mode where you just directly control the firefly with your movement keys, but we liked the depth added by trying to figure out how to position yourself in the correct way. Also, moving the firefly is very powerful, so we specifically didn't want that to be something you could do immediately. Instead, you have to figure it out, which also gives the player a little "Aha!" moment as they figure out how it works.

Although you may be right, it's possible it didn't add anything meaningful to the experience, and would've been better to streamline it, that's just what we were thinking AS we were designing it, many of those things turned out not to be true as we playtested :P

2. Huh, that's an interesting point. That was a very last minute addition. Originally the checkpoints were invisible (think of how hollow knights respawning works) but then we realized it would be better if they were visible, so we added a graphic for them. We really couldn't think of anything so I just threw that sprite together. Just the qualms of a 4 day game jam I suppose

3. So we really wanted to give a sense of isolation in this game. Since it's a puzzle game, we saw value in the player figuring out the mechanic themselves, hence why we don't have a direct tutorial there. If you're playing an old version of the game. there's not even a sign that says "Lock (hold) X/L/Shift". That wasn't a specific design choice, we just accidentally deleted that sign right before submitting and didnt notice until it was too late. Oops!

But the area where you fall is designed to be open enough so you can figure it out on your own, with subtle guidance by the sign. We found through playtesting that it wasn't very clear where you had to go, which was definitely a lapse in level design on our part.

But the design philosophy of that area was 1) they fall down 2) they see the sign by walking up to it 3) By messing around they learn they can screenwrap, and from there they figure out to go to the checkpoint.
So yeah, we did want a certain level of confusion there as they figure it out. Perhaps it was a bit too much tho

Haha! It's so awesome to see people break the game like that! I had no idea that was even possible, nicely done :D

Haha! It's cool to see people recognize us from our humble origins 🥲 And thank you for the kind words!!

And you know, we are working on a full game outside of this one 👀 (it's called Miss Paint you should totally check it out and wishlist it on steam just sayiiiiing)

I LOOOOVE these types of games. Trying to strategize and multitask is so fun to me :D

Managed to beat the final level with less than a second left on the clock, phew

This was a super fun and simple concept, had a good time with it! :) You set everything up really nice to where the words you receive work well with each other if you're attentive, that's some good design right there.

Though the sounds and music didn't work for me, I couldn't hear anything

the visual style is AMAZING. Had a fun time :)

This was my favorite game from the jam so far! It was such a hilarious concepts and the level design was on point! I had a blast. Great job you guys :D

I wish it had more of a twist on the microgame genre, but it was still a fun time!! (I was so bad at driving that capybara to tacobell 😆)

I had a great time with this one. Some of those later puzzles were really cool! I wish there was a bit more done with the mechanic though

5 Stars in every category. Loved everything about this game. The concept of the story was really unique, I was completely invested. Y'all did an amazing job.

🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴

Had a real fun time with this one :) I wish there was a way to heal the gaps in the floor, because near the end there's way too many meteors to clear.

Also the music was AMAZING. Great job to whoever made that

Thank you!! It means a lot :) <3

I JUST WANTED TO DATE THE STATUE!!!!

LOL this game was hilarious!! Had a blast :)

There was, but unfortunately during some last minute bug fixing we accidentally removed it! Oops! You can even see it as one of the screenshots on the itch page

This was such a fun little game! The only thing I'll say is that the jumps were often very hard to line up in the different gravities. But I had a great time. Managed to get 21/23 stars, I have no idea where the last two are. Guess I'll have to keep looking. It would've been really cool if the star in the UI was one that you had to collect 😆

This game did a very poor job at introducing the mechanics, but I did like the ones I was able to figure out! I had to quit at about the fifth level though because I just had no idea

I ADORE the artstyle btw it's fantastic

bro think he johnny upgrade

I got really lucky and managed to stop at the right time with only one upgrade

This was such a great concept! I loved how simple and intuitive it was, such a nice pick up and play game :)

wait did you make the puppet specifically for the game? If so that's awesome! I assumed its something you had lying around

Omg thank you!!!

... i may have played this game for like an hour

This was such a creative concept I loved it! Trying to make something like this would break my brain lol

LOL I love the puppets! Really charming and creative game :)

This game was great!! One of the best I've played so far :D Awesome job you guys.

That was short and sweet, I liked it :)

I loved the dialogue! "As your ceo, its important you're heard, but not by me" golden

oh my god the dopamine

i lost my sons college funds

Yeah the short jam time didn't give us any time to make a proper tutorial or polish. Definitely wanna make this a more complete game, and we plan to continue it past the jam til the end of the week

yeah lol, we overscoped a ton. I ended up submitting this 30 seconds before the deadline without testing it, and it shows. We're gonna continue it until the end of the week because I really like the concept

the mechanics and some of the cards are exactly the same as slay the spire :\

Made me laugh so hard

I absolutely love this concept and the execution. Taking the enemies abilities was really fun, and the whole theme of the hacking a guys stream was hilarious, i was laughing throughout. Really well done, I had to give it 5 stars in every category. I'd love to see this idea expanded upon into a larger game

This was my favorite game by far. The schmovement had so much depth to it and the level design was always fresh! Great job guys!

LOOOOOOOOL god that twist had me dying! great job guys

level i made

WOWIE ZOWIE! Awesome concept! whoever came up with this idea must be very cool and smart

Can you add save data management? I wanted to erase a save file to make a new one and i had to look through all my folders then so i could delete it manually.

Other than that though it was a wonderful experience, as you can probably tell from the fact that i want more than 3 total saves lol. Great job :)
