I did copy out the foreground characters, added text and dropped them back in. It isn’t pretty how I do it, but it works OK.

Love Let Them Eat Cake, and the vibe of your other work. Thinking it might fit as a Quick Start for Issue 3 which will be conflict. I’ll lay it out and see how it works, and we can chat direct on details as needed.

Edit: Hey @TrueTenno - trying to work out a way to DM you as Im not on Facebook. Are you on Reddit, Discord or Mastodon (dice.camp)? I’m Wightbred on all of them.

Ha! Yeah, the first one is the plan for the consolidated version. Just did a Launch related for the first issue.

Hey. That’s very cool, and pleased my comment helped you. The power of a hobby like roleplaying is helping each other with ideas and inspiration is never a bad idea. Excited with what you are doing on itch. I feel like we are still cutting through with our play and delivering worlds quickly and effectively with our toolkit, and very pleased to see you doing the same.

I hope Named helps with this, because addressing this challenge is at the core of what it does for us. Long before FKR existed or I had heard of Eisen’s Vow (players shouldn’t know the rules), we experimented with running D&D 3e with what we would now call ‘black box’ gaming (all the rules behind the screen) to try to better engage with the fictional world. Named is our evolution from that to something that makes staying in the fiction easy for us, but still has high impact rolls that change the direction of play.

I do think there are different balance points for people in staying in the fiction, so recommend you experiment around it to define your own balance using Named and any other tools that make sense.

All the best with your journey! Feel free to reach out if I can help.

Love the updated version.

Thanks PolarFrosty, I remember that. ;) Like I say on p250, those positive comments kept me motivated through 41k words, testing and many rounds of editing. So thanks for your support and encouragement, it made a big difference to getting me here,

Great interview!

Thanks! Definitely A5 size. Leaning towards a softcover from Lulu at this stage, pending the quality of the test print I’ve ordered.

This is the best riff of Fighting Fantasy I’ve seen. Great stuff.

Hey! I am keen to try Named solo, but haven’t had a chance yet. I think all the elements should work OK, but not sure. What do you think?

Edit: I got around to trying solo and it worked really well for me. Going to do some more.

(Whoops - accidentally deleted trying to add detail. Recreated.)

Thanks! The speed of character creation is a key feature we love too.

The longer version only adds one key tool: a deeper way to use magic than just using Names. It also has more detail on the purpose and alternatives for the tools and more techniques on how to use them. Plus sample worlds, characters and randomising options.

We haven’t done an actual play yet, but have done a series of ‘blog’ posts on Reddit that might be useful:

Thanks. But I just pushed us and wrote it up - we really built it together, It is amazing to me how this approach has slowly taken over all our sessions over the past few years in all three groups. Awesome to have found our groove. Hopefully useful for some others.

Been tinkering with my own push mechanic for a couple or years, and love what you have done with this SRD.

Interested in a physical copy. Who does your print on demand?
