I agree that AI art often takes from artists’ work, which is valid. However, this isn't the case here. The game developer has stated that they can't spend money to commission art at this stage of development, I assume their focus is on gameplay and the unique style they want to create. They’re choosing AI-generated art because it allows them to maintain that unique style while keeping their costs manageable.
Saying, 'If you can rig a model, you can make a scene, and if you can make a scene, you can make an illustration for your card' oversimplifies the process. It's like saying, 'If you can drive a car, you can drive a bus, and if you can drive a bus, you can drive a truck.' In reality, each of those tasks requires different skills, time, and experience. Creating art for a game, especially when trying to maintain a unique style and updates, is a hard thing that can't always be replaced by an asset.
While free or paid assets are an option, they often don’t offer the flexibility or originality that a developer might need to create something distinct. AI art, while imperfect, can provide a compromise in this situation
But what if the free assets don’t include a guy in a suit with facial hair holding a bottle of anti-fungal lotion? With free assets, you don’t actually own them—you just use them. Same goes for AI art—at least in the U.S., no one holds the copyright. If you've ever scrolled through roguelikes on Itch for hours, you know how tiring it gets seeing the same free assets over and over. free assets tend to show the difference between a well-worked-on game and somebody's practice code. This game is a great card game that plans on making art, but they simply don't seem to have the time, and or the money.
cool concept, not the best gameplay loop, could use a core gameplay restructure, such as destinations, or days, caves, more mobs, goals, upgrades, fog/ max sight range. ik most of these you may have thought of, just feedback if this will become anything more than a game jam game. needs a better mining system, jumping and mining is hard, and doesn't fit the freedom of unlimited jumps.
upgrades for buffs would be cool, like a one-time upgrade that made dice roll again on a bad roll, or for clovers to add a chance to activate chance-based effects twice. Donuts could receive a chance to make a weapon attack an extra time. all of these could require 3 of said buff.
a legendary that upgrades the ability of the weapon it is put on, knife giving every weapon after a chance to crit or 15% increased damage, banana give non bananas an extra attack. ect...
(L 1 = 1 dmg) , (L 5 = 5 dmg), ect.
the L 11 will always be in a corner
purple L 1 will always be on the edge, surrounded by 5 purple L 8
L 5 cat will be surrounded by 4 L 1 mice, when killed it will reveal all mice
I recommend not opening up chests with a question mark near them, if a number next to a chest is >10 it may be a mimic
the edge is pretty safe to make a guess if you have no better option IMO
level up before grabbing any heath scrolls
keep walls or mice around to help bring you to 0 hp
see if you can level up by emptying your health bar, if you need more XP than have health, you might want to make a guess if you have no scrolls,
if you have any more questions I'll try to answer them, I've only played for 12 mins
i agree that at 100% accuracy i miss alot, i can think of two fixes, one being that the flame explosion lands on the enemy you are targeting 100% of the time or to increase the hit-box size of the targeted enemy. i think increasing the size of the targeted enemy's hit-box would also help with round one bc i remember a while ago i died round one due to bad accuracy. or just keep it how it is, this is just feedback.
hey uh, my comment got removed from the ball suggestion vid, its probably bc i use a school email for YT,but even if i donlt get the ball i want ill still put it here bc i thought it was a good idea.
you Should ask "Lectvs_" on itch to use a ball from his game "Auto Balls", it might not do any thing special but it could be a new tier, or maybe they could spin around the pit like in auto balls.
and maybe with a bit of convincing Lectvs_ might update my favorite game.
