I initially had the problem that I could not add the extension with a simple double click, because my aseprite is not associated with the file extension .aseprite-extension.
This seems to be fixed in the fork: https://github.com/AnAverageGitUser/aseprite-companion

The fork has added some new features which I really like. I'll be using that for now. Still thanks for all your work.
