IDK if you have some references on creating contour line maps, but this page can generate some contour maps from real-world data ... just in case you really want a map to defend your home 😉

You have to import only the folder with the orientation you are currently using.

By default, Hex Kit uses VERTICAL, but you can create a NEW map and choose the option «Flat-top» to use the HORIZONTAL hexes!!

I usually do all the mapmaking stuff with GIMP.

They can also be easily imported into Hex Kit (https://cone.itch.io/hex-kit)
