Regarding Wava, I had thought that returning a bowl of magic water to her was the quest that freed the twins, but it is actually freeing the bird which I had already done by that point and I think I would have found out if only I checked my journal. I suspect that returning to the fountain of pure water would have de-parroted my knight, but I ended up going back there anyway after re-loading to fetch the other water in case it did something anyway (not much).
Aside from that, perhaps I have been exploring the wrong dungeons so far but there does seem to be a lack of bows better than the Dark Bow, I think I picked that up many hours ago and even the legendary bow I found from a miniboss on the overworld of the large island across the sea isn't a tempting replacement. I was almost temped to recruit the assassin at the "evil castle town" just to pinch his +3 Dark Bow!

Still working through this, back and forth on the world map as I discover surprising new sidequests when I fill in the edges of the map (before crossing over the sea).  Only two odd things so far; you can lose your starting archer lady later on if you click through an encounter with a prince at the docks to let her stay the night with him. Unusual but an opportunity to go recruit a different class for a change (well if I didn't go pick up the other archer straight away that is) - the problem is what if she declares she's leaving in the middle of dungeon? I was lucky it happened near the entrance and had just saved but it could lead to a TPK otherwise.
The other odd thing was that the witch can turn you into a parrot, but there is no obvious cure? Simpler just to reload and try the quest the other way.
Other minor things... recruiting animals is a curious option, is it meant to be a challenge? One quest that hasn't closed - the pair of brothers with one dead, the other has now been told but there is nothing obvious to finish it off?
Over the sea I go.

Edit: got stuck in the crypt with seemingly nowhere to go. Turns out I hadn't noticed the large "map" button in the bottom right!
