thanks for making such a manageable challenge for brand new devs like me! Had a blast entering this. Panicked a bit when I realized I needed it to be web based too lol. Nonetheless it forced me to learn another aspect of renpy which I am grateful for. Best of luck with the jam. I imagine it must be quite a lot of work!
haha thanks so much! 2 things I didn’t realize due to this being my first browser game. It appears it being a browser game causes the slow mosaic formation of images which I also agree is awesome and eerie! On the other hand the downloadable version closes out the vn on purpose to add a sort of sudden creepy end. Unfortunately the browser version registers this as “quit unexpectedly” which I had no idea would happen. Nonetheless thank you so much for the feedback and for playing!
thanks! This is the exact response I’m hoping for. Most of the prep for this game was drawing here over and over in procreate to make her as unsettling as possible! I originally had a much more anime look to her but found it too cute and slowly progressed to a sort of hybrid realistic/junji ito inspired version.
omg thank you all for this response! So stoked even the game jam members commented too! The game is meant to cut off at the end and in the downloadable form it is programmed to close out the game even to make it more creepy and sudden. What I didn’t realize due to this being my first browser upload is that renpy browser version looks like an error when the game closes out. Saying “quit unexpectedly” lol. So sorry about this aspect. I’m not sure who here commenting knows but this was for the 20 second game jam. So I definitely wanted to cut after the endings which obviously come quick! But I’m thinking next time I should put a tag in the main menu that informs players of this as I totally understand the confusion of being cut off my the browser version. Nonetheless ALL FEEDBACK is so awesome! Thank you all for taking the time to check my silly little game out!
to all of you who downloaded and especially those of you who did playthrus! you are amazing! I made this game just to simply see if i could program a full game and publish it. When I did I was very proud of myself as I struggle with alot of learning disabilites that have made learning any code or game assemblage EXTREMELY hard to focus on and follow through with a complete project. Now that people have not only played it but actually recorded playthrus as well?! Wow, Im shocked anyone found my game but incredibly grateful such kind people have taken the time to record and upload them doing so! In return I will always make sure to shout out and promote channels that do so (yes, even channels who dont like the game) and send my viewers their way in hopes to return the favor as much as possible.
Recently I released a second game called ROTCAST INTRUSION, which was in a totally different style and with far more complex systems in play. Overall I feel like it has been a bit of a flop and I totally understand why as its entire design was a massive jump into a photoshopped and AI generated series of urbex pics I took with my friends a while back. It was super fun to make rotcast, and the process has taught me so much! Nonetheless, looking at the response, downloads, and replies to my first japan based game that was digitally illustrated in procreate, I have come to realize, THIS is the style both I, the fumbling dev, and you all, MY AMAZING viewers, and players, enjoy the most.
Going foward I will be sticking with this style and the genre of eastern urban legends and folklore as it is a subject I have studied and been passionate about since I moved to japan almost 17 years ago. Currenty, I am once again working on a new Japanese urban legend based VN, that i hope I can continue as a series. Metrogeist City is the world in which I want to contain alot of these creepy tales in but giving players a chance to do more than answer a few questions. This will include but is not limited to, rpg aspects such as having and inventory, a simple battle system, and most importantly giving the player the chance to explore this world and investigate urban legends with as much freedom as I can manage. As for input, please dont be shy about constructive crit, urban legend suggestions, and aspects of my games you would like to see implemented as far as VN and RPG mechanics are concerned (no promises ill add them, but I might just try!). That said I love you all! I am so happy to finally be able to create my own VNs but even more happy to be able to share them with amazing folks like you all!
I had listed this game having used AI in the code and graphics thinking that showed up in the listing or description. I later realized I have to manually ad it as a tag for category for it to show up. I later even went into the description to make sure I wrote up not just what was listed under AI but how and why it was used. Please know this was just a fun experiment and I will be returning to my regular illustration and painting style. Although I will still be using AI to help me find bugs and errors in the coding because I struggle quite alot with these aspects of programming due to extreme dyslexia. Whether you hate me for this, love it or are just plan neutral I thank you from the bottom of my heart simply for giving my game a chance.
wow thanks! Honestly you saw right to the core of what I was going for! I’ll be honest I’m a bit unhappy with some of the things endings as I couldn’t push them as far as I wanted. I honestly wanted to get into a whole 4th wall break with AI/transhumanism horror thrown in but it makes me really happy to hear you call this an advanced vn!!! Thanks so much for playing and the kind words!
