no worries. I also use AI to catch many of my programming errors as I am still very new to python and suffer from dyslexia and adhd. However when people use AI to complete the process of making a game I totally understand. The vision is still theirs and they want to put it out into the world. Sometimes the only way to do that is with support from AI. Be proud of your final creation and its completion!
Yes all these are drawn in procreate. For me the art is easy and super fun. I work as an art teacher professionally and draw incessantly. Sticking to only 3 colors speeds up the process though. I’m unsure why some people get the runtime errors. It may be based on browser settings or browser used. I played through it in chrome and it was ok but I had a friend play through it on safari and it crashed a lot. Other friends played on android phones and had no problems at all and then some played on Firefox and kept getting told assets were missing which I totally don’t understand. For the smoothest run I suggest downloading it but I realize not everyone has the time to do so or is on platform that allows them. Nonetheless thank you for playing through and reporting any bugs you ran into. I’m still very new to python and am grateful for all feedback :)
ahhh! thanks! any sort of signal boost of these tiny games made by small devs is a prize in itself. Congrats on your first jam though! Getting the word out must be difficult for something like this. I only know that from having tried to raise awareness myself of events on my own youtube channel. That said if it would help I would be happy to broadcast the time and day of your livestream on my own channel. I can stream with my viewers beforehand and then we can end the stream and raid yours to add more participation. Also if you plan on doing another jam in the future let me know and Ill advertise it on my own channel as well. If you are making the effort to arrange a jam and then promote the games by playing them live the least I can do is get eyes on your jam in the future to increase the entries.
my game has a gaijin getting lost in inaka japan and following shinto folklore and edo era toshidensetsu at a ryokan in the middle of nowhere. When I made it I had a sense of being a traveler in mind in japan in mind as I have lived there for 17 years on and off. Hence when I saw a travel based jam that was totally ok with me using AI to help me code as I deal with severe dyslexia and adhd and have only been able to fully figure out renpy and python due to the fact that AI can point to my errors line by line I was really excited to join! But I later went back and realized how much i had blanked out on all the qualifiers and I am unsure if i properly meet what is needed to join. I later switched out gaijin to okyakusama to better allow anyone feel like the main player but I am unsure if that still feels as much like a fish out of water situation. Nonetheless if i am disqualified i still want to thank you for making this little jam that is open to those of us who struggle with the management of coding on our own and the concept is very nice too.
just a heads up, my next full game is coming out about mid way through this month. I have used quite a few of your songs through out it and listed you and your links on my main trailer page. You are also listed in the credits of the game. I saw you are down to be commissioned for game songs as well in the future. I am still a noob level programmer but my dream is to eventually make a game I can charge a bit of money for and hire you for a full game OST. Your vibe definitely fits the musical version of the images I draw for my games. Not too creepy, but not too calm. Sort of this sublime feel of an underlying melancholy that haunts the player from the inside out. My games may still be quite small, but I am going to be shouting you out on my youtube as well which has a somewhat small following of 88k subs. Hopefully it gives you a little more traffic until I can afford to hire you outright for an upcoming game. Please keep up your amazing creations. The stuff you make really stands out in quality and creativity from any other music I have listened to on itch.
whoa! I’ve never seen this one show up. I wonder how this happened? The weird thing is I don’t even have a file or folder with that name. Nor have I had other players run into this error. This is only my third game I’ve made and my first uploaded to the web so I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for bringing it to my attention
thanks for making such a manageable challenge for brand new devs like me! Had a blast entering this. Panicked a bit when I realized I needed it to be web based too lol. Nonetheless it forced me to learn another aspect of renpy which I am grateful for. Best of luck with the jam. I imagine it must be quite a lot of work!
haha thanks so much! 2 things I didn’t realize due to this being my first browser game. It appears it being a browser game causes the slow mosaic formation of images which I also agree is awesome and eerie! On the other hand the downloadable version closes out the vn on purpose to add a sort of sudden creepy end. Unfortunately the browser version registers this as “quit unexpectedly” which I had no idea would happen. Nonetheless thank you so much for the feedback and for playing!
thanks! This is the exact response I’m hoping for. Most of the prep for this game was drawing here over and over in procreate to make her as unsettling as possible! I originally had a much more anime look to her but found it too cute and slowly progressed to a sort of hybrid realistic/junji ito inspired version.
omg thank you all for this response! So stoked even the game jam members commented too! The game is meant to cut off at the end and in the downloadable form it is programmed to close out the game even to make it more creepy and sudden. What I didn’t realize due to this being my first browser upload is that renpy browser version looks like an error when the game closes out. Saying “quit unexpectedly” lol. So sorry about this aspect. I’m not sure who here commenting knows but this was for the 20 second game jam. So I definitely wanted to cut after the endings which obviously come quick! But I’m thinking next time I should put a tag in the main menu that informs players of this as I totally understand the confusion of being cut off my the browser version. Nonetheless ALL FEEDBACK is so awesome! Thank you all for taking the time to check my silly little game out!
