I got around this by using F11 -> F7 and moving onto the next quest line. I just want to be able to capture cities for myself and Spain. I really am not interested in any n nation quests or important quests. Though even though I finished the quest to capture La Vega and have an option in the Governor-general dialog to give a city to Spain, the game still did not let me capture Port Royale though - the governor had no dialogue option to take over the city for myself when I took the town. Does it require completing the 'kill the beggars quest or something? Or Port Royale just cant be captured?

Im wondering if its because I just paid the 500,000 the governor told me to go and find in Roc Brasiliano's treasure quest before this one. I didn't go search the treasure, I just paid it and moved on to the next quest.

I loaded an earlier save to do the Roc Brasiliano's treasure quest properly by searching, in case not having searched the treasure may have bugged the game out. But this time, Im not able to get the money that is in the treasure chests when I find one. I went to the one in Cuba, and there are two Gold entries in the chest. And its not possible to take the gold from the chest. When you click on any separate gold entry, it shows your own gold with 0 amount in the chest. So you cant get to the 150,000 gold in the chest and take it.

Im doing this quest as a Spanish privateer and I came to the point of tracking down Henri d'Estres in Tortuga. I went to Tortuga, entered with a trade license, then talked to the servant in his house, he told me to run outside as his master was outside. I get out, there is a specific NPC there. From what I understand, he is supposed to run away when I get near. But that doesn't happen. He just stands there and I cant talk or interact with him in any way as in the screenshot. So the quest cant continue. How to get around this bug?

Thanks. Will this work for ongoing games, or do I have to start a new game after modifying that file?

They keep popping up everywhere and in high numbers without any pause - there is a bounty hunter fleet chasing me every second I am on the map, even with a very small bounty.  On many occasions multiple ones pop up at the same time.  Then they keep charging into the harbor with a tiny snow etc, their ship starts turning around and starts fighting against absurd odds like one fort, two npc first rates, the 3rd rates and frigates in my fleet and numerous other npc ships until their ship is destroyed.  They don't surrender and what's worse I cant board their ship either. (bugged?) Attacking them causes my bounty to rise in the first place too. If I don't attack, the icon for being able to go to the map shows, and if i go to the map their ship is still on the map and triggers the fight again. So it causes a loop if I don't attack.

In the city its even more unrealistic - every ~5-10 minutes 2-3 bounty hunters pop in the middle of all the city guards and attack my character who is a privateer of the city's nation. And when they are beaten, Im in criminal mode despite having been attacked, my own nation's npcs in the city cower from me and I have to get out of the city and reenter to avoid that. When I exit the city to fix it, I get a message saying "You were unseen avoiding the alarm" - as if I was a criminal sneaking in and out of my own nation's city. (another bug?). If I stay in the city instead and attempt to talk to a npc, it turns the entire city hostile and all the guards attack me to boost.

Is there any way to turn off this irritating and unrealistic - and buggy - mechanic? If not in the game menus and mod options, can I do it by modding game files?

There is a point in the code where the xp gained is multiplied by the ratio of skill divided by 10. It makes the xp gain 1x if the skill is 10. It makes it 1/2 x if the skill is 5 etc.

It happens randomly and forces me to go pass a day at the tavern up to 14 times on occasion while suffering all the loading screens. It feels really dumb without any gameplay benefit. The visit to the store already represents a point at which the character makes an appointment or whatever to be there to do business and there is absolutely no need to complicate it further.

But looking at the ERAS 2 mod code, it seems to be working differently than in the manual: How much insight or reaction etc the character has affects how fast the skills that are affected by those skills get experience points.

Does having higher Reaction + Insight make the Light Weapons skill rise faster as it is used in the game? Or do they only affect the starting value of the Light Weapons skill?

Or is the skill increase for all skills tied to the Talent capability only? Ie, if you have Talent at 10, will all your skills increase at the fastest speed as you use them?

If so, what's the point of the other capabilities because they would affect only the starting values of the skills and even if you max a capability out, the relevant skills can only start with a value of 10, a negligible amount...

(This is for ERAS 2 mod, but I guess it is relevant for all Maelstrom mods)

How do PIRATES capabilities work? Does having higher Reaction + Insight make the Light Weapons skill rise faster as it is used in the game? Or do they only affect the starting value of the Light Weapons skill?

It would be very good if this game had a support forum. Not having it makes finding out things difficult.

How about a mod that covers the era from the 1460s to 1620s, the era of discovery, exploration, and settlement?

This is an era that is largely neglected in all genres despite being a period of high adventure, survival, exploration, discovery, and expansion. Along with major historic events.

The game could start at a point where major European powers are sending out discovery missions to the oceans, like the missions that Henry the Navigator organized. This could be followed by discovery, trade, and expansion of these powers to the lands across the oceans.

The player can get involved in this grand scheme of events, serving any power while also making himself/herself prosper. Discovery, survival, warfare, privateering/piracy, and politics can be mixed together.
