Can't believe I never noticed that was the trigger despite playing this so many times.
I may have stumbled onto a bug, but for some reason the magic shop only sells the strength spell and nothing more. At first I thought I had to unlock the wand or friendship with the kobold, but neither managed to unlock more spells to buy.

I was thinking more about small details, like antennae or extra arms. Its a bit embarrassing but its mostly because I just want to have a mothman lol.
