are skills used for anything else besides this calculation?

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, if my brawn was 6 then rolling two 3s would be a mixed success, but if my brawn was 1 then two 3s would still be  a mixed success? So what's the purpose of the stat being involved here?

Just picked this up and really looking forward to giving it a shot.

One quick question. The Success Chart on page six says rolling "above base skill". What does that mean?

I get that you roll your pool of d6s and add the relevant skill, but am I just trying to hit those numbers or am I trying to get higher than a target?
