I have had the same issue, and followed what you mentioned, but everything on that planet is locked off for the moment. Is it possible the issue is because the save is originally from an older version?

I had a problem in which when I came to the first "choice" and I went to save, but the save button wasn't there. Which, alright, I left the screen and found the choice buttons were gone. So I couldn't advance.
