I really like the idea of him calling the player "beloved", because that's a term I've seen used in some translations of ancient greek texts (though I guess that sometimes that comes with sexual role implications, depending on the translator xD).
I just think it sounds sweet, while being hot in a kind of an old-fashioned way.
