I ran some performance tests to find the issue and I will make a performance update for the game.

Which device do you use and what exactly is is laggy?
Is it the loading via SaveCode laggy or the entire game?

I did not encounter this bug in my premade rosters.
Did you play with your own roster? Because the cats need the hunting knowledge to find food, if they have hunger.  Without it they rarely get food through normal events.

I made a hotfix, adding custom groups should work now in the new version 1.3.1 without issues.

You need to right click on the zip folder. Then click extract all, that will extract the folder. Inside the folder is the Warrior Cats Hunger Games.exe, clicking this file will start the game.

This game will not receive updates, because I am working already on the sequel Claw Games. The sequel will have an online version.

You can create new cats under edit cats. In the current version you can't add own pngs. This is planned for the version 1.5.

Thanks for reporting. It's strange that it does not work. I will try to fix this version of the game.
