Hi hi! I am looking for a music artist, add me on Discord (taboky) if you haven’t found a team yet :)

Hi hi, never heard about SOUP or SOUP-likes before, but after trying some games and seeing how interesting and simple they are to make (programing-wise) I decided I will make my own for the jam using a game engine.

Now, using a game engine gives me a lot of control, and while the jam page already describes what SOUP-likes generally consists of, and that there is typically limited interaction in each room, the words “generally” and “typically” makes me wonder if I am allowed to add or change some things while still trying to achieve SOUP-levels of aesthetic and minimalism (the lack of objectives, the box-shaped room and object of interest, etc.).

For example:

  • Varying room sizes: Some rooms are bigger than others
  • “Meaning-less” interactions: Clicking a sprite makes it play a sound, or an animation
  • “Meaning-full” interactions: Interactions that can change the overlay, or the room in some way, or it makes you go to a different room, or changes something (visually or internally) until you leave the room, or the game.
  • Additional sprites: Like for room decorations
