I absolutely love the character writing! how benji is written makes you feel truly suffocated. he is your best friend who is simply concerned about you, who is afraid for you, and just knows everything about you, which makes it even scarier.
unlike ellis, who is isolated his whole life due to his lack of simple human communication, I knew from the start he was gonna be invasive and pushy. but even with all of that, I got more comfortable with him than benji (not justifying whatever that little victorian stalker boy is doing, though). that connection with benji, and the memories the mc shares with him, makes it even harder to resist him.
I know it must be incredibly traumatic to witness what his friend went through, and that it triggers his controlling behavior towards the mc, but it all just washes down in piss because of his egoistic green-bean ass. it's only about him, only about how hefeels, and how he is everything the mc would ever need, while everybody else sucks. i'm not trying to play down what he might feel, I just cannot stand that feeling of being misunderstood, completely ignored, and then having the icareforu card played.
this is why the writing is peak. I feel genuine anger, suffocation, and a sense of density on benji's part, as if I'm right there in the mc's shoes. and then there's how misleading that comfort of simple understanding from ellis is... like, you know this communication is fundamentally wrong, you know that, but after running in circles, it always feels good to change the view. sorry for ranting, waiting for future updates!!!
