Congratulations, personally.

(3 edits)

Please be mindful of the fact that none of these Results, by any means, are absolute appraisals of your work and Vision. All nine entries we received this year were indispensable additions to the legacy of Dream Jam, and we cannot overstate the wonder and enjoyment with which we became immersed within the Worlds you have created.

Do not let your Dreams be Dreams, but keep developing them, for all of you are avatars for the Creative Will of the Unconscious Mind.

Dream on, and see you on the other side, next year.

Rinzai Gigen,

Subliminal Mind Games.

Below, you'll find THREE SCORES:

  • the POPULAR RESULTS,
  • the JUDGES' VERDICTS, and
  • the CUMULATIVE SCORE.

The Summary is at the bottom.

To make time for necessary hardware updates and more ratings from the Judges and the Public, DREAM JAM's Judging Period has been extended by ONE WEEK.

CLASSIC - Alice In Wonderland - Chapter 11 - Multiple Illustrators Featured

Artist Credit: Gwynedd M. Hudson.

The Judging Period concludes on MIDNIGHT of the 22nd of this MARCH. (Pacific Standard Time.) All the Results, including Democratic Vote, the Judges' Verdict, and the Weighted Vote, will be available on itch.io within that day. Look for the post in this Community entitled "The RESULTS".

I thank you all for your participation, creativity, vulnerability, and patience. We are waking soon.

[({S.M.G.)}]

Okay, I shall try to work around it.

No worries; I will work around it if you can't.

The Judging ends within one week. Just check the time on the main page.

I need an upgrade to my Graphics Card before I'm capable of running this. Is there some chance that you could post a build for Mac or Browser?

I had movement issues, using Google Chrome.

Looking forward to that ear of yours.

[({S.M.G.)}]

I'll be in touch with you about it. There's still time, so rest assured that we shall find away to play it prior to the Final Verdicts.

Thanks, again, for your submission; I'm excited to see it in action, soon.

[({S.M.G.)}]

I'm told I lack "permissions".
[({S.M.G.)}]

Does it require Unity?

[({S.M.G.)}]

How can I run this Game?

[({S.M.G.)}]

I need a password, when you're ready.

[({S.M.G.)}]

Congratulations on your entry!!

[({S.M.G.)}]

It's all right. You can submit your work to both. I'm looking forward to it!!

If you're struggling to find a way to illustrate these Themes, read this suggested strategy. (<-Click Link.)

an Evangelion dialogue explaining the QACI alignment plan — LessWrong

  •  1. DEFINE your VISION. Make the Game that YOU want to create.
    1. What Games INSPIRE you?
    2. What CONCEPTS are you hoping to explore?
    3. What sorts of STORIES do you wish to tell?
    4. What MOTIVATES you to develop and to play?

This part is personal; don’t worry what your audience will think, quite yet.

  • 2. FIT your VISION to the THEME.
    1.  This is a healthy competition, so be sure to touch upon one of the three THEMES you’ve been given.
    2. Choose the one that suits your VISION. You don’t need to use the THEME as your Point of Departure, just so long as it’s your Destination for Arrival.
  • 3. IDENTIFY your TARGET AUDIENCE. Who would enjoy your Game the MOST?
    1. Is it for HARDCORE GAMERS?
    2. Is it for COMPLETIONISTS?
    3. Is it for AVID READERS?
    4. Is it good for STREAMING?

Keep this TARGET AUDIENCE in mind when making the Core Game. Once you have made a Working Draft which fits your Vision to the Theme and Audience:

  • 4. Make ACCOMMODATIONS. Introduce some options or restrictions so that Players who might fall outside your Target Audience can still enjoy or, at the least, appreciate your Game. These could be:
    1. DIFFICULTY Options or Adaptive Difficulty.
    2. STORY MODES with Branching Paths.
    3. RESTRICTED ACCESS in an Open World.
    4. UNLOCKABLE Achievements.
    5. HIDDEN AREAS and Content.

Something may be overwhelming to a Player. Find a way to ease that Player in; that Player just might join your Target Audience if you succeed.

Be sure, though, that you do not compromise your VISION for the Game. You can’t please everyone, nor should you. Make your compromises only once the Core Game is established.

^ If this Strategy is not ideal, develop one that works.

You must choose ONE of these in order to inform your DREAM GAME:

"MULTIPLE AMPHIBIANS."

"YEAR of the DRAGON."

"The FORBIDDEN CAVE."

[({S.M.G.)}]

This year's Dream Jam starts in just two days!! You have all February, so DREAM ON: https://itch.io/jam/dream-jam-2024

BASIC RULES:

1. Each Entry has to illustrate one of THREE THEMES which are [to be] announced at the Beginning of the Jam.
2. Each Entry has to be the PROPERTY of the DEVELOPER who posts the Entry.
- All CONTRIBUTORS of ASSETS should be credited, unless the Entry uses Assets from ANOTHER ENTRY.
  > If the Entry uses Assets from another Entry, the DEVELOPER must own the Rights to Publish*.
  > FREEWARE ASSETS may be used but must be credited as such. This often mitigates ORIGINALITY.
- RECURRING DREAMS (an update to an Entry for a Prior Jam) must be acknowledged as such.
  > This may mitigate the Score for your ORIGINALITY, as well.
* If the older Entry's LEAD DESIGNER is the same DEVELOPER, this person has the Right to Publish.
3. Each Entry must be SOFTWARE which is INTERACTIVE. Any Engine may be used.
4. All text should be in ENGLISH if it's necessary to complete a Playthrough.
- Other text may be dismissed from Judging, possibly resulting in a lower score in NARRATIVE.
5. The GAME JAM ORGANIZERS are NOT CULPABLE for any interpersonal or property DISPUTES.
- We will advise you to respect the needs and boundaries of both collaborators and competitors.
- However, Entries are unlikely to be penalized as the result of conflicts of these kinds.
- Take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

    • Originality,
    • Consistency,

    • Narrative,
    • Immersion,
    • Challenge,
    • Mystery,
    • Addictive,

At this point, a lot of you are probably considering surrender. Maybe you feel that you joined too early. Maybe you believe you joined so early that it is embarrassing to fail, so you would rather sneak away. Perhaps you have no further interests in puzzle games, in game jams, nor in game development in general. Perhaps all of these thoughts seem rational, despite the fact that there's an underlying reason of which you are unaware.

Evaluate. What are your reasons, truly, for self-doubt? How far have you advanced? There probably is time to make the game we need, if not the game you want. If you are fearful, don't be. You don't have to be alone, and, if you do end up alone, you are the champion for finishing your project. You have proven, by your entry, that there still is interest in Puzzle Gaming in the World. You've proven that there's hope. You are the little flame which starts a greater fire.

Don't give up.

Evaluate:

  • How close are you to finishing?
  • What is the core appeal of your design?
  • Must you cut corners to complete your project?
  • Must you ask for help?
  • Are you at all concerned with public judgement?
  • What's your vision and your motivation for participating?
  • Which will you regret more: Noble and courageous failure... or surrender?

By this point, you should have completed the designs for all your puzzles, and your focus is on implementing Assets and applying polish to the overall Design.

If you are struggling, there is no shame in reaching out, as great minds think alike, and grand minds think together.

  • Begun to prototype them.
    • Don't forget to save your backups!!
    • Test them with your family and friends!!

If you should need advice or feedback, let us know here!! Don't give up the grind.
