I know this is 7 years old now, but my thoughts (Spoilers): "It won't do anything unless you let it" because texts only have the meaning that we ascribe to them, hence the work is known by its reading because through reading we eventually put together the meaning in the final scene. The narrator is discussing whether the player will find any meaning in the end or not.

This is cute :3 I'd like to see what you could do expanding on the concept.
