I do 3D renders and have found that quarter scale delivers smoothest interpolations, but this setting is only available in older versions and limited to increments of 0.25. would really like to be able to set the internal working scale lower/any specific value! the alternate interpolation settings from 2.1.2 were also super helpful to reduce artifacts when needed, but this setting is gone in the last few releases.
