But there is sound for the knocking! Please try the game again and press E on the doors. It is working for me at least.

Are you saying that nothing happened then you knocked? Sadly, the game seems to have all sorts of bugs, but usually you can walk back a bit and then try pressing E again.

This game was awesome. Tiny, well polished and very historically relevant. I think you could totally continue this into an educational game about putting things in perspective.

It was fun. Maybe it could benefit from a smoother camera, maybe even static to some degree. I found the movement most fun around the edges of the map, where the camera wouldn't be following me so I could keep better track of myself and the enemies.

That was great. I really enjoyed it. Sadly, I think I found a bug. When raiding the storage, I kept pressing to assault them and even though I got a high enough roll, nothing happened. Eventually, I just pressed the stealth one (12) and lost the game XD. So sadly I couldn't pass the game.

The graphics were really good, although a bit harsh on the eyes to have that noise effect all the time. Maybe a bit of less during normal gameplay would have been better. Although I do have some sensory issues, so it could just be that.

Overall, great experience. I wouldn't be surprised if you come out first.

I had some serious skill issues with this game. Took me three tries to understand it. On the first try, I jumped right in, on the second, I skimmed the tutorial and only on the third, I read it properly xD. The graphics were very nice, but I think it would help to make the vehicles different for firemen and repairmen.

If you keep working on this game, maybe it would be nice to have some sign on the selected unit showing how many charges it has left, not only on the image on the top right. Also, the game to me seems to be half way between strategy and a puzzle game. Perhaps it could use different levels, starting with fewer vehicles in  a smaller map, etc. It would give a sense of achievement if you finish with three stars, not losing any houses, etc.

Nice game overall. It made me want to play it a few times =).

Thanks a lot =). It's my first game jam and... the first game I make that is actually playable and not following a tutorial.

Thank you for such through review.

Regarding the movement. Initially I made a simpler input system where the diagonal movement was normalized, but because I had only animations for four directions, it looked awkward. I decided to just limit the directions and because the map was very vertical, I made the horizontal movement dominant. So the player will most likely always hold up or down and then adjust the movement with left or right. It seems people don't like it XD..

About the design, I did position the houses intentionally, but I hadn't thought much about the starting position relative to that. It was a happy little accident.

Oh and yeah, I'm happy the game was playable at all. I was connecting everything until the last minute. I might go back and fix the bugs, as well as optimize the game. It now creates a gameobject for each step sound and then destroys it. Makes it quite laggy on the web I think.

Thank you for the review!

Yeah, I wish I had had time for more content, but this is my first jam and I everything else took so much time. Right now, the game has 15 "events" with choices distributed in 6 nights, and 2 bombing events. And it took me until the last second before the submission was due to hook everything up with the consequences of your choices into a beautiful tangled mess of spaghetti code XD... cheers!

Nice little game. I like how the sight trail behind your cursor. Maybe the game could use some goal to achieve. For example, achieving as many kills as Simo Häyhä... though that would need a lot of fine tuning to see how difficult or easy it was, etc.

(1 edit)

I can see the potential. I was quite interested to see how the game progressed, but it was a bit broken I think. I couldn't move around the map.

I kinda messed up the resolution, so it needs to be played fullscreen. Oops...
