Is it normal to play minesweeper with two mines?

Great game, but for some reason, when I died on a level, I respawned in the previous level.
Great game, but I wish some of the mechanics where kept secret so then there could be an "AHA!" moment of figuring out a mechanic.
I beat the final boss but nothing happened.
