You have to get to certain rooms where kecleon will sell you certain items, kind of like berries. You can't actually heal your team with it directly but there are some items that add health. You heal your team at the Chansey rooms.
There's a glitch where I can't type in a name anymore in the beginning. I haven't played this game in like months but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't there before.
