I actually had some time to test this out over the long weekend and have created a "Deluxe" version which has colorized tiles and sprites when running on the Game Boy Color. 

Give royal-ur-dx.gb a try on the GBC or emulator in GBC mode to test the colorized version, let me know if there is something that could further be improved!

Thank you, I can't take credit for the concept as this game has been around for over 4000 years, though it is remarkably fun and far more interesting than some of the children's board games currently on the market.

I've been learning more about the system (just finished this blog post on creating GameShark and Game Genie cheats for this game) and it is tempting to create a GBC version of this game. I need a few more small projects to build a bit more experience and confidence before moving onto something more ambitious, so that would fit... there is a resonable chance I'll give that a shot at one point.
