I went for trying to tackle him the few time i tried taking his route. Should i have tried to trip him for it to work?

Hi! I just recently downloaded this game and i find it fantastic so far! The only issue i seem to have is getting the Lyall route right. Even though my affection levels with him are maxed out, i just can't seem to have access to his second date. (Even after i checked the guide you posted to help.) Do you have any tips that could help? Thank you!
