[UPDATED 11/27]

so I've been chewing on this jam since the last post I made and unforchies I just don't have a cohesive artistic vision for any kind of project that would pertain to this topic :c I was wondering if anyone with artistic skills and maybe a more focused idea of what they want to do wants to add me to their team? I consider myself a skilled programmer and I work in godot :3

EDIT: good news! I have an idea for a direction I want to go in. I am still seeking artists to make it happen :3 my idea is a 2D platformer game about a spirit that wants to become a doll who meets various dolls that inquire about what that means to her. the spirit will be able to switch between the forms of dolls she meets along the way, each of which has a different play style depending on what kind of doll they are. if this interests you, please reach out! I'm @sapphiconoclast on discord.

blew my tits clean off

hey, don't be sorry for rambling! I am a person who celebrates passion and when I opened up this thread and saw a big wall of text I got the biggest doofiest grin on my face because I knew I had found a Person with a Thing and People with Things are my favorite kinds of people :3c are you open to connecting on discord? I am sapphiconoclast there as well. I think we could have some very rich conversations together uwu

yeah, I hate that meme. it's such an alien mindset to me, to assume that your disdain or even revulsion towards someone else's hobby (that they put time and effort and care and love into!) is not only justified, but is the default reaction to that content? and to make a joke out of it that that normalizes that disdain. I don't understand it and I think to mock someone else's passion like that is mean-spirited and gross.

I wanted to get into kigurumi for the longest time before I made my mask and I couldn't because of the cost barrier and when I finally realized I could use my recently purchased 3D printer to make one I was so happy! even a 3D printer, while cheaper than many high-end masks, is definitely a luxury good, I'm really fortunate to be in a position where I've got one. I've been trying to persuade some of my friends to let me make them masks, too, to little avail unfortunately X3

I agree that care and love tend to be self-evident in works. there is very little that delights me more than seeing a work of art executed poorly with love because it means that it was made by someone who said "well, I don't have this skill, but I care so much about this project that I'm going to make it anyway!". in a world that is becoming increasingly dominated by media that is technically good, i.e. well-executed, but is made for corporate profit instead of self-expression, I think passion and the art that comes from it are treasures. I really love that you've chosen to make this an unranked jam because in addition to just being equitable to folks with less time or energy, it means that every work can be celebrated in its own way.

thank you for your kind comments about my post and for reciprocating my interest in this topic <3

hi! my name is marcie and this is like my third or fourth jam of any kind ever and having recently 3D printed an animegao mask myself, I'm very excited to participate! I have a lot of thoughts about masks and identity that I'm excited to figure out how to incorporate into my submission, but I wanted to open a discussion about what is meant by "a lot of doll/kigu media kind of sucks" in the jam overview. what makes good doll/kigu media? what makes bad doll/kigu media?what are the different attitudes towards the subject matter that are present in the community? I'm interested in different perspectives on these questions.

I suppose I don't really consume doll or kigu media outside of when I'm "taking care of myself", so to speak, but to answer my own questions, I really enjoy media where the transition to doll/kig is not some magical transformation as much as it is a deliberate process in which the performer's identity is subsumed by the animegao's, and some contrivance exists for the purpose of making it so the performer can stay in that state for a long time. I spend a lot of time thinking about whether my fixation on masks as a means of suppressing, changing, or amplifying identity is indicative of self-esteem issues, and currently my thinking is that masks do to their wearers what an audio mixer can do to a song- it lets you "turn down" some parts of yourself and "turn up" others, mix them in different ways or even mute certain components. a shift into a masked persona is almost like a vacation from being your normal self, in many ways, but to make that vacation permanent or semi-permanent comes with a lot of interesting conceptual ramifications! I want to explore something of that nature in my submission :3

also hot take overlapping the reversal sigil with the spin sigil (which I can't seem to find a use for) should make it spin the opposite direction

EXTREMELY cool game. I love recursion and automation and such so this is just awesome. is the secret ending the one where you get the three dots? if so, I found it! :D

very cool idea, very nice aesthetic. some of the platforming could be a bit more forgiving and I wish my little guy wouldn't fall so fast so I could place boxes more precisely but all around good job! :3

hi there, thanks for playing our game. we seem to be having a bug with some computers that we'd like to address in future releases where the max jump height is about 1/5th of the screen instead of being about 4/5ths of it. how high were you able to jump when you held W or space? if it's not high enough to clear a stop sign, then can you please provide some details about your keyboard, keyboard settings, and your OS?
