Don't worry, it's not a skill issue. I tried making it hard!
Originally, enemies could have a 50-50 chance of spawning. So imagine getting kidnapper, kidnapper, kidnapper, kidnapper, kidnapper during the final stretch.

Thanks for playing! The ending is meant to be a bit cryptic. If you wanted to know what I was going for, I'll try to explain it below:
SPOILERS
The kiddo mentions his mom in the beginning and sometimes when talking to strangers. Rare gameover flavor text also mentions her as well. I tried to manipulate the wording in ways that hints towards the ending. "My mom was supposed to pick me up" is at first glance the kid saying his mom forgot him at school. But in reality, he's in denial that his mom is gone in general, and is still saying she should've been here to pick him up. The kid lives behind the local theater, inside of a dumpster. It also explains why he's so readily willing to dive into garbage cans to hide from strangers. As for the quote at the ending, it's tied to his anxiety. As it turns out, being all alone in such a dangerous city, living as a homeless child takes a toll on ones mind. The quote tries to symbolize words one might tell themselves in such a situation.
YOUR WORDS ARE TOO KIND! Thank you for playing our game! I'm glad you enjoyed the environment and gameplay. Also YOUR GAMES ARE AMAZING TOO! Your art is incredible! How did you decorate your webpage for Shifty lil'Wizzlers the way you did? I'm brand new to Itch and only did the simple background, font, etc. Teach me your ways!
Awe man, sorry you didn't make it. You were sooo close there at the end! The best way to keep your anxiety down is to talk to people around the 40 sanity mark. There's a balance of kidnappers and nice people, so there's a good chance you can easily drop to 0 sanity. Then when you're low sanity, hiding from people is the best.
Thank you for playing though! Your video means the world to me!
I'm worried that dinosaur is going to come to life.
Edit: The dinosaur came to life. Scream and run.
What a fun little game! The maze aspect was really cute and satisfying. The art direction and gameplay loop was equally amazing. Great job guys!
If I'm required to leave a critique it would be the final boss. I think the room was too big for the AI to navigate. Since the camera is so close, I naturally hug walls while trying to solve the game. But in doing so, I hugged the walls, lit up all 4 crystals, and exited without any of the enemies appearing on screen. I feel bad because of the amount of work put into the dinosaur. I only got to see him once!
The intro cutscene was sick af! I couldn't actually do anything once I got in-game though. I'll also point out that the guard accepting my id called me "{0}" which is probably a bug. The other thing is that the front light of the jeep seems to be in the ground by the front tire.
Visually stunning though!
