Is there a reason the 1.8.4 Windows version only seems to contain a copy of a web version, and not an executable file anywhere?

Same here.  Possibly the needed flag gets cleared if you postpone starting the route after the warning that you'll be locked to the Aurelie route for a while?  I'll need to test to be sure.
