Actually, I figured out a workaround, just by changing the char number to  4096 chars in hi-res mode and then switching to ECM.  Now I have 64 chars in all color combos! Great software!

I have a suggestion for ECM mode-you can change the primary color each char, and so even though you only have 64 chars in 4 bg colors, it would be helpful to be able to add more than 256 chars to the palette in ECM mode, as long as it matches one of the 256 defined chars.  Great software!  Thanks so much!

Dude...this is GREAT!  Can't believe it runs so fast.  Of course the next thing I'm thinking, is can we make Castle Wolfenstein on this thing?  Or at least some variation of it. Think sprites can be rendered over it?  Saw your clever sine and cos tables in the source code.  New to C64 programming so that makes sense, but never would have thought of that first off.  Congrats on this achievement!
