Point 1: I don't understand the logic. You want square geometry so you want to set vertical overscan to equal horizontal overscan.

Also on a real CRT, the yoke isn't perfectly and, especially the top area on a Sony, often times has misconvergance so having lines of colors is not useful. The old monoscope, white boarder along the edge of the raster, was very useful for both geometry like H-TRP and convergance (TLH) and even convergance strips, better than even the dedicated convergance patterns.

Point 7:  from ChatGPT

"A human usually detects a distorted circle (oval/ellipse) faster than noticing that a square is “just a rectangle”, but those are slightly different kinds of judgment.

  • Circle → oval: this is mostly perceptual. Your visual system is very sensitive to symmetry. Even a small stretch makes a circle look “off” immediately.
  • Square → rectangle: this is mostly categorical. A square is a rectangle by definition (a special case), so the issue is not seeing it — it’s whether your brain is thinking in the broad category or the narrower one."

The squares are more difficult to use and measuring tape is slow.

I hate the new 1.20 Wii version. I'm getting a sync issue at the top of the raster on my BVM-A20F1U. I hate the new grid and I hate that you removed the circle linearity test. I don't understand at all what khmr33 is thinking.

I use this program to calibrate CRTs, including installing yoke. The only patterns that I use are:

1. Monoscope/main grid. I use this one for overall geometry but I also use it for convergance over the dedicated convergance patterns because it's more easy to see the overall misconvergance. Cropping the top and bottom kills the usefulness of this grid for both geometry and convergance. I need a full 240p grid, not 224p or whatever it is now.

2. Full Screen Red, Blue and Green to check for puriety issues.

3. Gray ramp, IRE 0 and IRE 7.5 for setting black level. I look for a sweet spot between IRE 0 being washed out and black crush in the gray ramp.

4. Color bars with plunge for color and tint.

5. Sharpness or just the title screen with sprite for sharpness.

6. Overscan to make sure overscan is equal between horizontal and vertical.

 7. Scroll test because there is no more linearity circle test. Removing that circle pattern was really bad. It was the second most useful pattern after the grid because it's very easy to notice distortions in the circles.

So most of the test patterns are not useful for calibration and you've crippled the most useful pattern, the grid, and killed the second most useful pattern, the circle linearity,

Each new version is worse, it's less useful. Can you please fix the 240p suite?
