So I did a search on “pinball” across all the manuscripts and it came up with a document that I don’t remember going through before. Weirdly, it doesn’t seem to have been published in the original volumes and the doc I have also lacks details about who the interviewee is. All have is a name from the filename: “Toshio Iida”. Here’s the relevant bit.

This is crazy. So I edited the book Japansoft: An Oral History, which is based on John Szczepaniak’s original interviews for his Japanese Game Developers series. Proof on my website: https://rotational.co.uk/2020/01/on-japansoft-an-oral-history/.

John sent me the manuscript for vol 4, but the day after he told me not to use it. I thought it was a bit odd, but he sounded pretty stressed and I didn’t press him on it. I already had 100,000s of words of interviews to go through and was busting through my word limits. Later I learned John has having some issues with the whole project, which he’s talked about since, so I didn’t think too much more about it. Now i’m thinking differently.

I tried to open the zip he sent me. It crashed my PC. Guess it’s corrupted.
