What if only one person gets a card of the identity suit?

In the 5% chance that only one player is dealt a card of the beginning suit which determines roles, then after this is found out at the end of the round with role reveals, that player must make a case that they were part of the winning team. If they convince 2/3 of the other players they are put on the winning side, if not then they are put on the losing team. That means, if at the end of the game the Alien won then this player has to convince other players they were the Alien. If the Civilians won, they have to convince the other players they were the Guardian.

FAQ:

What do we do if everyone is a civilian?

A: You wouldn’t know until the end, but probably it means it’ll be an uneventful game where the civilians win. Unfortunately, there’s not a great solution for this.

How do we know who the Guardian and Alien are?

A: You don’t. This entire game centers on assumed roles, identities, and personalities as a facilitation for immersion and emotional ‘buy-in’. There is always a chance that you, the player, aren’t who you think you are. Players have to make uninformed and flexible assumptions to proceed. There’s always a chance you’re accidentally sabotaging yourself. Part of the game is navigating this uncertainty.

What does the Guardian do?

A: The Guardian is not so much of a wielder of special abilities as it is a personality bestowed upon a player. A further element of immersion and an encouragement to take on some extra responsibility or devote some more emotional buy-in to the outcome of the game. The primary tension and responsibility of the Guardian is to follow and combat sabotage patterns. If one person is continually putting in high value positive cards for small totals, you as the guardian may want to recognize this and anticipate a spike in the sum by themself adding a high value negative card. However, if they followed the pattern wrong, their support then becomes self-sabotage. Balancing the uncertainty while bearing the responsibility of ‘The Guardian’ is the point of this role.

For people unfamiliar with poker, the game instructions could provide further clarity or a reference sheet to be more accessible. Beyond that I think the game is a fun spin on games like poker and spoons. It successfully created the same amount of tension and excitement as other established games. Another improvement would be in including something like chips so people can keep track of their winnings/losses and get visual feedback on their play strategy.

Need clarification on if you can check only one card to the side of you or all cards around you and then choose one to go to, also are aces 1? I really enjoyed learning and playing this game! I love board games, even though there's no player persona I know people that love board games would enjoy playing this because the feedback on your progress is visual and the competition presents itself. The game makes itself approachable. Super creative too.

I think a diagram of the game set up would clarify the beginning section. Otherwise, the game was fun to play.

I really love how unique the set up is but unfortunately the rules were difficult to understand. The hammering mechanic and what it means and looks like to strut something felt unclear. Still, I feel this game has potential and I feel it would be balanced in the case that the rules were easy enough to follow for us to play.
