I'm a little apprehensive about the pitch: "... than any single human being should ever have?" When last I checked, there is no formal ceiling to monetary acquisition, nor is there any sensible rationale for introducing such a ceiling, nor even can one justifiably allege that, were sensible rationale enacted for the Greater Good, that we could make predictions about what such a ceiling would look like by which to measure the results of our Noble Enterprise. I did not wish to discuss the Game offhand as being simplistic or demoralizing, since I know that Our Medium enables us to simulate experiences which most people never have, and the function of most simulations is to create sympathy rather than to satirize, for which a simulation would be entirely unnecessary. As such, judging by the pitch alone, I must say that I'm not quite "sold" on the premise. It feels very symptomatic of this vague contempt and self-entitlement that people have about Wealth, which is honestly pretty old more than 200 years after Hegel. I would love to better understand how people live when they are either more fortunate or more successful than I am, because it enables me to experience their joy as my own, thereby feeling that I am part of a Greater Whole which is embodied in that Role Model. While the chosen subject has of course been criticized for avaricious policies, his business is responsible for sustaining both my physical and mental health, and I will always remember Amazon.com, primarily, as an unassuming Online Bookstore, for which I'm sure we can all agree that the niche demanded to be filled. I want to honour that legacy; perhaps that is why I would sooner read the numerous books I've had purchased online than to play your Game. [Shrugs.]

I haven't played this yet, mainly because I am skeptical about your intent for making it. There is a proliferation of Games and other Narrative Media online, and many of them are clearly targeted with a sociopolitical message informed purely by personal experience but without much elaboration or anything grounded in historical precedent. Even if I played each and every one of them, I wouldn't have anything to take away from them except for anecdotal, autobiographical commentary from an unreliable narrator. (That's been my experience with games made in the "Bitsy" genre.) I don't mean to discourage you from producing and consuming autobiographical work, but do you truly believe that this is the most operative means by which to reform practices within an Institution to which you are a newcomer (as am I)? It would appear, based upon the thesis in your Description, that you took issue not with an "act", (for which accountability would be a given imperative) but rather an expressive gesture. Considering that you are targeting things that people have SAID rather than things that they DID, (with the exception of the very act of speaking, which in itself cannot be attacked, though its content may be considered misleading) this may come across as propaganda pushing for censorship, rather than free expression aimed at reform. If you cannot tolerate what people say to you, then you cannot position yourself as an advocate for the ideal of tolerance as an absolute, nor can you hope to conduct a conversation which empowers the subjectivity of your fellows rather than simply subjecting them to your own Gaze, if you will pardon the hackneyed Sartrean terminology. This has been a major cause of concern for me for seven years now, so I hope that you will pardon me my trespasses in taking this opportunity to criticize the genre as a whole. It is hardly a personal attack upon your work. It's rather a reflection upon the problems inherent in a culture wherein personal feelings are universalized as though they were ethical imperatives, often to the detriment of impersonal and rational discussion in the greater interest of not only the individuals but the Institution as a whole. This problem has been around for at least two generations, so I hope that your generation will not repeat it under the false assumption that you are doing something revolutionary. Feel free to share this.

I don't think that anyone who renounces the Traditions of his Ancestors will either find relief nor entitlement to it. There is no "Religious Trauma", but rather the Trauma of a Life devoid of Meaning or Purpose. I cannot overstate my envy for those who were cultivated in a Spiritual Faith, for I was not. However, I am sure we all agree that, if there is a God, He blessed those who have Faith we want, for no one Church has ever known the Evils of Our Time, undoubtedly a Godless one abounding in the very Idols which both Christ and Antichrist alike insisted that we bury. Pardon my poor choice of words; the hour is late, nearing dawn, and I am partly drunk. I meant this to dissuade those who were blessed with privilege which I did not enjoy: to always know that they'd lay down their lives and loves for something Greater.

"It is not living, but living rightly, that matters." Can you claim you have Survived, then? To what End? To what End shall we Die, nonetheless?

I profoundly enjoyed this experiment. The plot unfolds like an X-files episode. Most of the characters are generic but they hint at mysterious backstories while executing their functions appropriately, believably, and professionally, allowing us to assume the proper mood of rational detachment from the Drama. This is perhaps ideal for creating tension and suspense at the outset, since the story grows layers of emotional depth as major objectives are reached, thereby producing contrast and a sense of rewarding our steely perseverance as the bark chips away and the cold personae come undone.

Foreshadowing will be obvious to fans of the genre, though perhaps we can expect some twists in the vines as future installments bud and come to fruition. The Sound Design reinforces an air of atmosphere, at first pristine but haunting but eventually germinating into a fruiting body. Clearly, a lot of care was taken to ensure that the Sound Design was unintrusive but effective/affective, like a moss growing on the walls rather than a wildfire.

I will do my best not to spoil this fresh narrative for anyone reading this review. Suffice it to say that we are dealing with various "walks" of Life here, and this work of speculative fiction shines a light into the dark underground of our Scientific Common Sense. The lines between Animal, Mineral, and Vegetable dissolve, and this dissolution is handled fairly floridly, for the most part. I might add that I enjoy the naming conventions as well; Richard is a real Fun Guy.

At times, pronoun usage created difficulties in differentiating plurality from singularity, but in context of the diasporous lore this was almost as appropriate as it was confusing; undoubtedly, such postmodern deconstructions of Human Identity are not wholly out of place in this bizarre terrain. The puzzles were also fun but much too easy and in no ways explicitly related to the blossoming Themes. I would have like to see some more branching paths, though. At times, I felt bogged down by the deterministic structure.

I won't lie: I'm glad this Demo did not go on longer than it did, but that was partly owing to my eagerness to advertize it. I expect that the Action shall pick up sporadically, and I am rooted to the spot until it does. There's still mushroom for growth. Happy Hunting.

This Game is... confusing. I had to play it for half an hour before stopping, since my mind felt like risotto. What we have here is an ambitious Concept that could not possibly have been executed believably and relatably in one month, I'm afraid.

A nameless, unseen Monster distinguished for his "silver tongue" is tossed into a series of face-to-face interactions with a diverse smorgasbord of unsightly, misshapen ghouls and spooks. Each of these abominations is allegedly depicted as an autonomous Individual with a unique Personality, Psychological Defences, and Weaknesses. The objective is to employ a spectrum of manipulative "skills" in the pursuit of an undefined and vague ideal. Players are encouraged to deconstruct each conversation in order to assert some sort of dominance over the stubborn and unyielding N.P.C.'s, though the motivation and the justification for doing so is never made apparent.

The first source of confusion must be the Soundtrack. Clearly, the mixing and mastering took some work, yet its applications reduce all of that effort to waste. The sound effects are gruesome and loud, as is the Music. Hip-hop drums with loud bass frequencies disrupt a Tutorial section whose writing feels like a manual. Saturated ambient echo effects loop incessantly without much in the way of development or variation, though it's all much too intrusive to feel ambient and undistracting.

It does not help that the prose is somewhat turgid and hard to follow. There doesn't appear to be any distinct rhythm to any character, nor any kind of character to the rhythm. Each monster speaks as if rattling off data in a Soviet propaganda film. To add to this Orwellian nightmare, it becomes a real struggle to find any one consistent POINT to these dialogues. Hope is fleeting when the first prospective client, whose identity fluctuates between being an Individual and a Group, begins to make statements of an epistemological and a metaphysical nature. I may come back to this part after upgrading my Protagonist's "Intellect" to the greatest possible status, because this rather dimwitted sociopath does not seem to know how to engage in an ordinary discussion at this point, preferring to divert his attention to minor, distracting details as though he were Holden Caulfield. The Mist Colony proceeds to develop some potentially engaging lore about the various levels of ontological/epistemological Hell, but my pseud of a Protagonist simply dismisses him internally as a self-centred Solipsist rather than a Cartesian: a bizarre turn indeed when confronted with the classic "Evil Genius" meme we all know and love. The lore is wasted on the point of view, since we don't SEE these various stages in action but must be TOLD what they are. Perhaps none of us are innocent of doing this, but it would help to offer some actual diversity in terms of characterization, storytelling, and scoring if we are to work our way up to this freshman lecture.

The mess is muddled more so, as aforementioned, by the extreme ambiguity of who is speaking to whom. The Protagonist is never shown, to the beast of my knowledge. He is never given a name or gender except "Silver-tongue" and "You"; I must default to the generic "he" only because I do not wish to call myself an object, and the Second Person implies I have artistic license to project my own gender UPON him. Part of the problem is that the non-playables are often referred to as though they were Groups, Colonies, or Hive Minds, despite behaving as if they were mere Individuals fighting to preserve their own autonomy in Hegelian/MacIntyrean fashion. I understand that it has become fashionable to surrender time-honoured grammatical Law in favour of the incidental ambiguities in the English Language, but, like MOST forms of manipulation, this is no excuse. Either the Monster is a Group, or it's a Person. If it is a Person, yet to call the person "it" is much too mean, at least a writer should give SOME thought to the Monster's Gender Identity; it's not like any of us really inherit a personhood which is independent of our assigned roles, and those roles traditionally play a much greater part in our social integration than the secondary roles we assume online and among friends. Besides: it's not like one intent on MANIPULATING the N.P.C.'s will be tempted to regard them as anything other than Instrumental Objects possessing Individual Egos, and knowing the Monster's Sex/Gender would of course be far MORE effective in bypassing outward, self-defined forms of autonomous identity by hacking the Personal Unconscious. Were this Game a Foucaultian exploration into the Will and its relation to Identity, I would permit it its conceits, but since the Protagonist clearly has NO interest in honest conversation, the pronoun usage comes off as pretentious and all-too "millennial". Even using the generic "he" would have made more sense... you know, as MOST literature does.

None of this is to say that I was not disappointed by virtue of this Concept's Potential. Like many overrated Games, it gets downloaded because its premise is intriguing. Unfortunately, this Concept has yet to be Developed to Perfection. Everything is boiled down and expressed as though the audience were ten years of age, which I HOPE is not the target demographic. It reads like a Design Document rather than a Game, and that is why I had to stop playing: not only because I came in expecting a Psychological GAME, but ALSO because this piece of software retains so many of the elements OF a Game, from its deliberately sloppy visuals to its overproduced sounds, that I cannot rightfully begin to guess at where the Developers were GOING WITH IT.

I don't mind having to guess; that can be part of the Fun!! Even a Game made deliberately to "feel unfinished" has that timeless Zen quality which leaves a lot to our Imaginations. Yet the Game was presented as though it were a Completed Work. Its Science must wait on its Art to reach fruition.
