Stoked you enjoyed it, despite the unclear directions hah! That will be fixed in the future for sure.

We went pretty all in on the realistic graphics for the jam but we’ve actually been debating whether a more stylised approach might be the way to go for future iterations. Not cartoony, but not photorealistic either. We’ll see what happens!

I have since been informed I somehow messed up the buttons for the pages - left page is right page, right page is left page. So, if you select a ring by clicking -inverse-, it works. Damn it, haha

Very solid, quite enjoyed it, feels like a classic Newgrounds game, and I see you. I see you there. I see you being inspired visually by Madness Combat. I see you. And I appreciate you.

Very punchy and satisfying combat overall, but that boss was impossibly hard. Felt like he wasn't losing health at all, and I had to give up. But, good start!

Died at the pipe sound effect, my humor is broken. Really fun otherwise, good job!

Really addictive and evokes something that feels straight out of NewGrounds at its peak, in the best possible way. I feel like if this came out in 2006, I would do nothing but play this for hours on end, and eventually realize I forgot to do my homework.

Sick soundtrack also! Great work!

So gutted that a whole third of the game isn't available - the portraits you posted look so cool! Gonna 100% keep an eye out for this, because I was SO invested, this writing is REALLY good. Keep it up, excited to see more! <3

Love the vector aesthetic, also reminded me a lot of laser light shows, this might just be me though but I felt like the color choices were a bit sharp, made my eyes hurt a bit. Though, that could just be me being very light sensitive.

Otherwise fun! I like the inclusion of lore, and the designs of the creatures! Very good!

I would say my strongest criticism is the visual effects and the soundtrack being a little bit jarring after a while, I had to stop mostly because I was feeling disoriented. But I appreciate the general idea that's here, and the underlying pixel aesthetic and artwork is solid, and I think there's a good potential for this to flourish into something more!

ALSO the name is a SHAMELESS rip-off from the 1996 PC game! smh smh smh -1000 stars off (jk)

Don't feel dejected! The visuals are really cute, I would love to see this further worked on, because the aethereal vibe is immaculate. Good visual start, basically! Keep us posted! Make a thread!

This was absolutely fantastic, I was blown away immediately by just the menu alone, but then the gameplay was really solid - it felt like a glorious combination of Magicka and old PS1-style roguelikes. As someone in my chat said, I would support this on a kickstarter without a thought. This was lovely. I loved the slightly runescape-esque style on the hands, I loved the tiny detail that when you use the fire abilities, there's an idle variation where Viridian shakes their hand to get rid of the heat, I loved the soundtrack, and the overall art style, I even loved the fact that when you get clobbered, the knocked out portrait is placed in the same spot as where the in-game portrait is, bringing a specific kind of syncronicity between the game-over screen and the game itself.

Fanastic work, I would love to see this continuously developed. Great work!

However, I got unfairly killed by walking towards an enemy, who had finished its attack animation (the big sword slap down on the ground one), and he was BEHIND a WALL. WITH the finished animation. That should not have killed me. I am angry now.

0/10, i want a refund

(jk 5/5)

I found two guards who seemed to be having a chat, shot one of them square in the face, the other walked off like nothing even happened. Must've been the wind.

I like the concept, the ring blinking felt nice, but didn't feel like it filled a purpose at least here, but I can see how it would come in handy in some scenarios.

10/10 voice acting.

Seconding previous speaker, that soundtrack went unnecessarily hard, I was boppin while shootin. Good concept! Very classic shmup-style game, very fun, goofy abilities. I like it!

I too got stuck on the ringing of the bells, or rather, trying to figure out how to do it. I love the appearance of a horror game in the jam, as much as I am a scaredycat and kept my volume lowered the whole time (even if I was mostly confused). I like the addition of lore, quite verbose such as well. Would love to see more of it, in perhaps a more well conveyed gaming experience. Valiant effort!

Very fair, it's the conveyence issue I ran into mostly in that I didn't have time to... well, do conveyence. For instance just a simple tutorial in the main menu would've done. But my priorities were elsewhere, hehe. As for ring selection, that should be it! You flip the pages, the hit "E" on whichever shape corresponds with the order you received. Are you saying that doesn't work? Will have to investigate then.

But thanks a ton, I'm quite happy with where we got despite the flaws, and look forward to making it better in the future! Y'know, after our brains have rested a bit...

Thank ya thank ya! Yeah, for future iterations there's definetely gonna be some lighting changes to make it less dark! I think I know why you lost hammer-function though! I preliminarily added the functionality for a scroll-wheel tool switcher, but didn't have time to add the other tools. I did forget to remove the binding though, and so I think you scrolled and lost control that way! Scrolling back should fix it (though I noticed this breaks the "missed swing" SFX)

Thanks though! Glad thats the vibe you got, that's what we were going for! <3 Good luck in the jam!
