Disclaimer: Maybe this is more a of a personal problem since I use multiple ambient sound tracks instead of a single music track per room/location. I'm also working on a giant map (A Pound of Flesh for Mothership) in a single project and therefore add LOTS of sound files.

There's some "friction" that I experienced and wanted to report:

1. New sounds are paused when added. The default values for sounds work very well for most of my use cases, save for the playback state. When adding multiple sounds you have to go through the list and change the playback state for each one. This can be annoying when working with a lot of sounds since the list doesn't automatically scroll down to the added files.

2. New sounds are added to the end of the list and that means that new sounds can be covered by previously added sounds for cursor interaction. In that case you first have to start moving the sounds around in the list to be able to interact with the sounds you just added.

3. New images are also added to the end of the list. New images can be completely covered by previously added images (i.e. when using a large non-transparent image as the main background). The first time it happened I thought that there's a bug and the new image wasn't loaded at all.

Surely the way that it works right now is beneficial for a lot of people so I don't suggest changing it. I'm aware that I can change the order of sounds and images after adding myself by drag'n'drop and right clicking to "Send to front/back". However, this has still been an annoyance. Maybe a setting to reverse the order of sound and image files being added to their respective lists can be useful? Also a setting to define the default values for added sounds?

(Edit: the problem occurs for all sound types, not only global sounds)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add a sound (default: local sound, manual trigger, not playing, looping, not muted).
  2. Save project
  3. Re-open project

Expected behavior: Playback position should still be at the start of the sound since it wasn't played yet.

Actual behavior:  Playback position is set to an "invalid" position. The playback bar is clipping outside of its box.

After saving, before reopening the project:

After re-opening the project:

Notes:

  • The problem also occurred with tat v0.5.5 (unfortunately I missed that paused sounds do not save their playback position correctly when I reported it working before).
  • The problem is unrelated to the fact that the sound wasn't played before. It also occurs when the sound was played and then paused before saving and re-opening the project.

FWIW v0.5.5 does work on a MacBook Pro 2021 (Apple M1 Pro, MacOS 15.4).

Happy to help. I can confirm that v0.5.5 correctly saves the last selected playback state and position (edit: I missed that paused sounds do not save the playback position correctly: https://itch.io/t/5380048/win056-paused-sounds-get-an-invalid-playback-position). Maybe it's negligible since the tool is in early development but I'd like to point out that when opening a pre-v0.5 project the sounds are all set to paused by default and don't start at the correct position.

I can confirm that it's resolved with v0.5.5.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add a sound (default: local sound, manual trigger, not playing, looping, not muted).
  2. Play sound
  3. Save project
  4. Close project
  5. Re-open project

Expected behavior: The sound's play/pause state should be "playing".

Actual behavior: The sound's play/pause state is "paused".

Notes:

  • The problem is independent of sound type.

After saving, before closing the project:

After re-opening the project again:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add a sound (default: local sound, manual trigger, not playing, looping, not muted).
  2. Change sound type to area sound
  3. Play area sound
  4. Move listener inside area sound

Expected behavior: I should hear the sound just like local or global sounds.

Actual behavior:  I don't hear the sound at all. It only becomes audible after adjusting the sound's volume of the sound in any way. Mute/Unmute and any of the other controls don't fix the problem.

Notes:

  • For reproduction the order of the steps 2 and 3 doesn't matter.
  • Keep in mind that the problem also occurs when I open a project with existing area sounds.
    • If the listener is inside the area sound and I play the sound then it's audible. If I move the listener outside and inside again afterwards then it's not audible again unless I change the sound's volume.

Great update (edit: but with some annoying bugs) and video! Just played around with it a bit. The new triggers are really nice. Play on enter + non-looping works great for one-time events (i.e. a dropship landing or taking off). I've been largely avoiding these previously since it was a bit of hassle to control.

Typos in the new "programs on the vidscreen" table:

  • "00-09. NEWS (d20-1)" should be "00-19. NEWS (d20-1)"
  • "10-19. ADS (d20+19)" should be "20-39. ADS (d20+19)"

The hide media list button works again.

The maximize button is still not working.

Thank you, this new "UI scroll sensitivity multiplier" setting solves my issue. For now I set it to 0.05 to get a roughly smooth volume control scroll behavior.

  • The maximize button does not work anymore (nothing happens).

The two UI errors listed below occurred when I first opened an existing project that was made with v0.2.2 (WIN) after installing 0.3.0 (WIN). I was able to reproduce these errors with new projects as well. However, after I created a new project, saved it and then opened that same project via the "open" button the two bugs listed below no longer occur and I cannot reproduce them anymore. It started working again for both new and existing projects.

  • The audio file list is empty but the sounds are present on the map and are working (see screenshot below). This happens with both new and existing projects.

  • The button to hide the media list does not work anymore (nothing happens).

Actual behavior: When adding an image it is automatically placed somewhere on the map. It might get spawned in the same space as a locale or area sound (in this case it's an area sound). However, the sound (even when it's locked by double clicking it) sits above the image for cursor interaction purposes. So, you have to (in this case unlock and) move the sound away to be able to move the image and then move the sound back into its original place (and lock it again).

Expected behavior: New images should not be spawned where they cannot be accessed right away. - and/or - Non-locked images should be above locked sounds for cursor interaction purposes.

Expected behavior:
When you're scrolling on an audio file the volume should smoothly increase/decrease between 0 and 1 so you can fine-tune it.

Actual behavior:
When you're scrolling on an audio file the volume jumps straight to 0 or 1 (depending on the direction).

Additional information:
I'm using Windows 10. When I use the default value ("3") of the "Choose how many lines to scroll each time" Windows setting then tat only allows me to set the volume of a file to either "0" or "1". If I change the Windows setting value to its lowest possible value "1" then I can set the volume to a few more intermediate steps: "0", "0.3333333206176758", "0.6666666793823242", "0.9999999618530273" and "1".

Thank you for including a plain text file. Unfortunately, the text file is missing some text boxes from the PDF. That includes gameplay relevant parts like the herald and princeling swarm stats.

Hey, I suppose the PDF is letter sized. Is there any chance you could also provide a PDF in DIN A4 format for the form-fillable cards? Makes printing and cutting a bit easier.
