probablemente sea el hecho de que windows 8 es un sistema con versiones de aquellas apis mas antigoas por lo que no te va a funcionar si estas en una tostadora te voy a pasar un windows mas liviano hecho por un youtuber angloparlante llamado endermanch https://dl.malwarewatch.org/windows/mods/ dale click a tiny 10.iso y ya esta 

hey mira trata de buscar el directx cmd y ejecutar el juego desde la carpeta de instalacion en el cmd es decir con el comando cd luego de que encuentres la ruta de instalacion escribe start dum.exe o solo dum.exe no recuerdo bien y al lado ese -dx12 o -d3d12 

asi:

dum.exe -dx12 (tambien puedes escribir -d3d12)

o si no te sale entonces escribe:

start dum.exe -dx12

y si tampoco te sale escribe:

start dum -dx12

y si  definitivamente no puedes es debido a que juegas en una tostadora igual que yo

tienes windows ltsc o algun windows desatendido como sistema operativo ?

ve a archivos de programa o archivos de programa x86 luego ve a la carpeta que diga directx y busca entre todos los archivos un desinstalador

mas lo mas probable es que tengas directx desactualizado

o tal vez tengas un problema de controladores de audio aunque si es d3d compiler significa que no has actualizado directx  o que el juego fue  hecho bajo otra version mas vieja o mas nueva por ejemplo una beta de directx

prueba actualizar tu version de directx 

o mas bien la pregunta seria que version de windows tienes o usas un desatendido
