Congrats on your first 3D game! This was a fun little puzzle--like some others I was able to solve it without using any of the mirrors in the living room area :)
I thought the reflection mechanic was a cool idea and was pretty well executed. The one issue I ran into was that sometimes the mirrors would move slightly from where you had them when you clicked to position them, making it a little tricky to get the beam of light out of the bedroom.
Fun concept that I could see being interesting for additional puzzles. Nicely done!
This was cute! I'm a fan of the low-poly 3D artstyle and music, definitely did well with the cozy vibes. I appreciate that this was a straightforward and easily-digestible concept--I can tell you all were able to polish it quite a bit as a result of keeping the scope reasonable for a 3-day jam.
If there were time to make this a bit more fleshed out, I would recommend a bit more variety in how you actually acquire the mittens. Maybe different kinds of minigames, or some way of incorporating the environment into the challenge.
Overall very wintery, very cozy. Well done!
I really enjoyed the tone and style of this, and you all managed to get an impressive amount of content in in the short timespan of the jam. I thought it had a very unique identity from an art perspective, and kudos to the musician!
As for a bit of constructive criticism, I do wish that the game had more interactive elements. I imagine this is largely inspired by visual novels, and I know that the narrative is the main incentive for those kinds of games, but I didn't feel like I had much control of the narrative or many opportunities to make choices. I know this was a very short game jam, but if you all are continuing the project, I would definitely consider ways to give the player an opportunity to make meaningful choices that affect the narrative.
Overall this was a neat narrative experience. Well done all!
Wow, I really adore this! This reminded me so much of the kind of game you'd see on flash game websites years ago (RIP Flash). You all really nailed the vibes here and I would absolutely play more of something like this. Here are some more in-depth thoughts that I hope are helpful to you:
What I Liked:
- I love the idea of a coffee shop that uses a magic mirror to give the customers exactly what they want. I think this is a really neat idea for a game of this style that brings something a bit unique to the table.
- I was excited when I realized that unlocking the first room added another interactive element in keeping the fireplace going, but I was a bit disappointed when other rooms didn't continue with that trend (at least from what I could tell). I think gradual upgrades are kind of essential to a game like this, so if you were to continue with this project, I would absolutely recommend leaning into the room upgrades and introducing new elements of the game with those.
- The overall presentation of the game is just so endearing. The art style is adorable and the music brings everything together--even your itch.io page for the game looks great! Very very stylish.
Constructive Criticism:
- As others have mentioned, my customers just stopping showing up after the third day and I couldn't continue the game. I imagine this is just a bug that couldn't be addressed in the time limit, but there was a chunk of the game I couldn't get to as a result.
- The camera controls were a little unwieldy at first, until I realized I could use the middle mouse button to navigate a bit faster. May be worth adding WASD camera controls or making a note of the camera controls somewhere in the game (hopefully I didn't just miss this lol)
- It would be really nice to have some sort of indicator showing what ingredients you have already added to the coffee machine, or some way of undoing the ingredients you've added. There were a few times I hurriedly added something and then realized it may have been the wrong thing, and I was unsure how to check or start over.
- It was also a bit confusing when figuring out what to do with the patrons on the first day, before any of the rooms were unlocked. I didn't realize I could place them in one of the locked rooms, which felt a little unintuitive. You may consider having a small seating area that starts out unlocked in the beginning.
Overall, this was really such a charming prototype you all put together, definitely one of my favorites out of what I've played. If you were to decide to continue with this project, I would absolutely encourage you to lean into the room upgrades and making those more interesting. I think it's one of the neater ideas you've got going on here.
Well done to you all!
This is a neat idea! I like that the game has you navigating two kings of puzzles simultaneously, between solving the mirror puzzle and navigating the maze. I had fun!
Here's some constructive criticism, if you'd like it:
- I assume the ZQSD controls are intended for a different keyboard format than what I have. Unfortunately the WASD controls did not work for me, which made it very difficult to play on my QWERTY keyboard.
- It wasn't immediately clear to me that the maze under the ice was supposed to be a reflection of a hidden maze above the ice. Now that I realize that, I do think it's cool you incorporated the reflection element in this way, and I think it's a fun idea. However, it took me a bit of time to realize why I couldn't walk across, so it may be good to consider how you can make it more clear to the player what the maze is supposed to represent.
- I felt that the anime aesthetic for the player characters was a little disjointed with the stylized low-poly environment (this may just be a personal preference, but thought it was worth mentioning)
Overall, I thought this was a creative concept and had fun solving the puzzle. I think you did a good job with the cozy winter vibes (and I appreciated the cinematic camera angles at the end)! With some more polish I would definitely play more of a game like this.
This is a really neat concept! I think this is a creative idea that would be interesting to expand upon.
For some constructive criticism, I think first and foremost this could use some more clear instructions for the player. I was unsure how the cards behaved, where I was supposed to place them, and how the projectiles would behave. Having some built-in instructions and maybe some sort of legend for how the different card types behave would be a great improvement.
I also had some visual issues playing this in browser. The display was very small and it was a bit difficult for me to see the cards.
All in all I think this is a fun idea at it's core and is a pretty cool prototype for a 3 day jam. Well done!
Thank you for playing and for the kind words! The visual assets were indeed mostly free, however the music was created by one of our team members, kyledelastreetcat!
We agree that the freezing sheep isn't terribly cozy haha. We originally envisioned a mechanic which would allow you to thaw your sheep back out, but weren't quite able to get to it.
thank you so much for the feedback! this is genuinely super helpful.
the mixels are something that didn't occur to me, but now that you've pointed it out I can't unsee it haha. we randomize some of the scaling on the tree, bush, and rock assets to give the map a bit of variety, which I think is where most of the different pixel sizing comes from. I think if we were to have made the assets ourselves and had the time to, we might have just made different assets for the different sizes. it's definitely something i'll keep in mind for future projects, thanks for pointing that out!
the game indeed came out a bit harder than intended! the core gameplay mechanics came together about 24 hours before the submission deadline, so we didn't have as much time to playtest and tweak it as we would have liked. ideally we would have made the sheep stay much closer to the fire at first and stray further over time.
this was our first jam, so we didn't anticipate how the difficulty would come out (or at least I didn't). we'll absolutely try and suss that out a bit more for future projects (especially for cozy ones haha!)
