This is amazing for your first game. The music and gameplay is really good (even if its really punishing when you die). I had a lot of fun finishing it :)

I love different chess adaptations with twists to them, and once I got a hang of moving the pieces by activating them, this game is really fun. The only issue I have is that there is very little feedback to the player, which can make it confusing to move pieces sometimes. Other than that this is a great game, deserves more ratings.
What you have so far in this game is great. The music, animations and artwork is well done and I like the different enemy attacks. Some feedback for the combat could be adding some visual/audio cues for when the player deals/takes damage, and also adding a melee attack the goes diagonal would be nice. And if you get to finishing the twist for when you restart the game, it would be even better :)
(I forgot to comment when I played this a couple days ago...) This is a lot more difficult than the version before the jam ended lol. This overall feels really well made. The only thing that makes the game a little unfair to me is that the monster that comes from the ceiling (don't know if there's a name) forces the player away from the computer for a really long time, which I get is intended, but it makes it impossible to manage the monsters on the other side of it, which feels a little unfair if you get attacked because of it (then again, I'm not sure if there is an intended way of avoiding this). Other than that everything feels pretty balanced and fun to play :)
This is great for your first game. The mechanics and upgrade system is well made (and I'm glad that some upgrades are permanent so its not hard to get back to playing after dying). The only issue I see with the combat is how you can spam the guns so much, and that makes it difficult to utilize alternate ones while fighting. I'm not sure if you plan on extending or changing the game after the jam, but either way this is a great start :)
