I got this book on Kobo Plus, and the following is my review

Ngl, when I first finished reading this, I was like wtf did I read! Not in a bad way, mind you. Because I loved this more than I expected.

The blurb said steamy, so I did expect a lot of smut, even though I’m not a fan of smutty books as a whole. That said, there’s a lot of gratuitous sex in this, and much of the plot is like an excuse to add some more smut to the plot, but for all that, there is a plot.

But what I loved the most about this book is the character work. Belony is like an extremely adorable and confused character who doesn’t even understand himself let alone the human he tricked into marrying him. His interactions with Devan made me roll my eyes and left me with a strong desire to shake him, because how can someone who has lived for as long as he had be so oblivious or so foolish?

The humans are well, humans, and the contrast between them and The First couldn’t be more obvious. I loved that the First are clearly superior and they know it, but they are still kind of nice.

Devan is my favourite character because he shows so much growth in this book, and he’s clearly the person who’s getting things done even though Belony thinks it’s him.

I was really anxious for them at one point, and many times I did end up in tears because gods, the emotions of these characters bleed from the pages!

If you like queer romantic fantasy with a lot of spice, a lot of angst and an interesting plot that holds your attention, you would love this book.
