Not sure what triggered it, but right after I chose "Get down here" dialogue option I immediately jumped and started punching up to hit the boss. It happened in slow motion, and the slow motion persisted until the first boss attack. So for a few minutes everything was running at 25% speed. After the first attack it went to normal speed and was fine from then on.
