An update, I went back and spoke with someone at mgc, he told me there was a plan for a gog release and that's likely the code that would be physical. He couldn't tell me if it was on optical media or flash drive though.

I too found out just recently about this game at MGC (and had a wonderful conversation with an attic door dev while trying to mitigate some website issues lol) and would love to preorder but have the same question as above.
