…groovy.

Ha! This is awesome! I love it! Super simple concept, but fun AF.

Thanks for the feedback! It was for the Metroidvania Month game jam about a year or so ago. I don't think I'll be updating this project, but I have been working on a new one that addresses some of your notes.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and especially to comment!

This is pretty rad and I could see it being used as a legit typing test thingy for applying for a job. But a cool job. A place that doesn't require crunch, but rather a healthy work/life balance paying a livable wage with seasonal bonuses. Seasonal unconditional bonuses. Just 'cuz. Like...I don't know why they couldn't just be averaged out, boosting the base pay...but maybe it could be optional? Like, this job is so cool, they let you choose to either get seasonal, unconditional bonuses, or just average it out across base pay. And maybe you maybe you get to choose quarterly...I'm not sure how or if that could be sustainable, but if it could, they'd probably use an application like Relaxa-Type to gauge their aspirational employees' typing skills.

Super fun and cute aesthetic! Love the music, the look, the gameplay - gonna download and give it a proper whirl!

I love the look and feel!

I played about two minutes and I'm downloading it.

So far I LOVE IT. I love the aesthetic, the chill vibes, unique feel - can't wait to get fully into it! Will return with a full report (if I remember...and I'll do my best to do so!)!

THIS IS AWESOME

I'm looking forward to this! I'm a Unity refugee...just by going up through the first Practice thing, the educational approach appears to be the best I've experienced by far (with one exception) from the Unity side.

Ahhh!! this is so cool!! I really enjoyed this! Downloading, and when I can, will donate!

This is weird as hell and I'm here for it!

I love it! Reminds me of the Mooninites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force!

Thanks so much! I've been meaning to message you on the GDU discord - I really appreciate your support of the game!

Heh.

I are stuck.

I got stuckazoolie

Mistimed jump, landed right on/off the corner, now I can not move the Starcatcher.

It's peanut butter gamejam time!

This pack is PERFECT and just what I needed for a project I'm working on!

OMG - this is NICE!! Like...holy crap...just what I was looking for but didn't even realize it until I listened. VERY reminiscent of the Firefly soundtrack, which I love. Didn't purchase here, I am a fire mage!

Muchas mahalos!

Hi! Looks like the invite may have expired. Is it possible to get a new one generated?

Aw dang...okay...I haven't worked on it in a while...but I kinda want to. Your comment may be what spurs me on to action!

Sorry you can't find it, but thank you for the feedback!

Oh geez - what platform are you using? I tested it and it works on Windows. Someone else from the game jam has rated it after playing, too. I'll see if I can figure anything out, though.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

It's my first attempt at a game like this, and I intend to take more time to iron out the wrinkles.

Fantastic work! 13, eh? Lucky number! Controls are responsive and pretty tight, it's def nonlinear, music - while repetitive - is dramatic and engaging. Character designs are great, and I really like the hand-drawn stuff!

Keep it up!

During my very first playthrough, I hated it. But I was also up pretty late and grouchy anyway.

Once I started getting the hang of it, enjoyment increased exponentially!

I really like the minimalistic presentation, in both aesthetic and sound. I feel like I'm in some kind of minimalist dream when playing.

The controls and roguelike elements take some getting used to, especially the way you have to activate the walking ability before, well, you can walk.

So, huh...I guess you really have to learn to walk before advancing to other abilities!

After walking, you can purchase the jumping ability, and then the swordwielding ability, and so on.

So yeah, I really enjoy this game and will keep playing it for some time to come!

I like this one!

Why do you need internet connectivity?

Wow. This is a really good example of how a compelling story doesn't need to be complex, wordy, or anything. This story is compelling and the writing simply communicates it.

And with the minimal visuals and audio, it strikes the ideal balance between showing and telling, such that the reader's (player's?) imagination effortlessly does all the heavy lifting.

Congratulations to KatBFine for this success and thanks you for sharing it. There's a very personal vibe to this VN, and I'd guess it took no small amount of courage to not only make, but then openly put this out.

Thanks again and I look forward to the extended edition!

Ah - okay - well...clearly I didn't make it. Buncha wild stuff sprang up during the day and when I finally was able to knuckle down, one bug after another started springing up as I was putting on the final touches, and in my time zone the deadline was 2 AM. Got to the point I knew I couldn't have it playable and build it in enough time so I threw in the towel at 1:55 and was asleep by 2:30.

I'm still going to finish it! So I'll update here and on the page once I do, tho obvs it's out of the running for this jam.

Hello! Just have a couple things to iron out - like a title screen and ending screen or whatever, but hereʻs the project page : https://cliffbaileygames.itch.io/in-the-darkness-of-knight

Iʻll have something in within 24 hours! Thanks!

Do I need to tag Falcon Nova or anyone?

Ah, okay. I missed the livestream announcement.

That all makes sense! Thanks for clearing it up.

I'm just curious as to why this is all required. Source code and assets?

Okay.

I didn't see that explicitly stated anywhere in the rules, and I guess I misunderstood the little part at the bottom about libraries or whatever.

So - not paid assets, but free assets are allowed? Because yeah, I have to scramble now, likely starting from square one.

But thanks for the clarification.

I don't know for sure, but you should be able to. I haven't done a ton of jams before, but the ones I have don't have any ownership over your game. Most I've seen is them just requiring you to keep it on itch for free until the jam and rating periods are over.

Looking at the main page for this, I don't see anything talking about this; no link to any additional rules or terms or anything.

So wait a second...can or can we not use assets we've bought from the Unity asset store?

Hah! Awesome! Glad you enjoyed!

Dude! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! And yes, I am going for a comedic tone, but also enjoyable gameplay experience.

Post your requested and desired features here. Maybe I'll implement them, maybe I won't. Maybe they'll inspire me to implement something similar, but different! Who knows??!
