I'm using MAME.
But I don't know if it's a emulator issue or not. I'm not sure if there is any sound bug reported on MAME neo-geo emulation.

When I'm at the bottom of ladders (i.e. level 1), I have to press the 'jump' key to go up., is it supposed to be? It should only be necessary to move upward.
