Well, after reading both vns entirely, I feel that Arches is able to function on its own as a narrative. There are some details that would be more clearly understood depending on which routes you completed, but aren't entirely necessary to enjoy this story. I would say that even some lack of knowledge may even make the story more impactful and shocking, so I would say probably not.

I heard somewhere that each route was written by a different person, each writer based on a different horror movie genre, that's why each route explore horror in a different way (Carl's is most paranormal centered while Leo's is more like a thriller/spooky person chasing you). They may get some inspiration from that movie, I would be curious to know more.
Wonderful story, despite me being a natural coward, I deeply enjoyed the story itself. Its sense of fear and uneasiness is constant to the point I even hesitated in whether I wanted to see the next part or not, and had to take a few breaks because of the fear. However, the concept is interesting, especially how whatever that thing is always finds a way of tricking its victims into receiving and passing the curse.
