If you add the polyamorous trait to them, you can ask them if they want to have an open-relationship (through talking to them about your relationship).

Given that the first choice is Male or Female, and if you pick Female you get "LoL, JK, you have to play as male", I'm going to guess no...

Agreed. Given how androgynous the MC is anyway, it'd be easy enough to add in.
