There's no fool-proof way to know for sure, but an honor system has worked for us thus far. If you do want to use AI-generated media, make sure to mention that it is AI-generated in the description.

Yes, responsible use for code is allowed.

Yes, the voting period was extended in response to many requesting more time! Hopefully there will be a lot more reviews soon.

Any game can count towards the theme, make sure to explain how it relates in your submission though.

Yes, just use it responsibly.

Yes, past winners have had polished games.

Thanks for the support!

We have one prize voted by the judges and the other voted by the community. Since it's our first time doing community voting, we may extend the voting time frame if necessary.

Unpolished Jam community · Created a new topic RESULTS!!

Hey guys! The same message was just sent on the Discord, but The Unpolished Jam is now officially over, and with that, we have an announcement on the winners! But before that, we just want to thank all of you for your incredible work. The games were genuinely all incredible, and for our first game jam, we were blown away and overwhelmed by the positive reception. We're very excited to say we will host another Unpolished Jam in the near future (and will be a bit more punctual when it comes to deadlines). Everyone should receive an overall rating in the next few days, as well as a comment on your submission from the judges.

Now for the Unpolished Awards

RUNNER-UP: Diggin' Deep! https://practicalgamedev.itch.io/diggindeep

WINNER: Little Clyde https://churrylus.itch.io/little-clyde

Congratulations to these two brilliant games that were not only incredibly fun to play, but also embraced the theme in all of the best ways. DM for prizes!

Additionally, we would like to spotlight a few more games that stuck with us in different ways. These aren't necessarily the next highest ranked, but a few entries we found especially memorable.

- DepthLock: Great mechanics

- SpaceBound: Amazing future potential

- Elizabeth's Island Adventure: Charming original art

- Penguin Dash: Just a ton of fun

It sounds trite, but know it was genuinely difficult to decide on final winners—y'all genuinely crushed it. Once feedback and ratings are out, feel free to reach out if you have further questions about your game. I really hope you all had a great experience and that you are excited to keep developing games and join future jams. Additionally, please give us feedback on how we can improve the jam's experience for all of you going forward! We're still learning (one might even say unpolished) and hope to continue to grow with the rest of you. Again, congratulations to everyone on your games!!

Winners and honorable mentions will be announced later! Video won't be for at least another week.

Try using something else please—sorry for the inconvenience! If you really can't, make sure to explain how it was used in your submission.

Yes, of course! There's no reason to strive for an unpolished game, just don't be afraid if everything isn't perfect by the end.

Great question. You are allowed to use AI code for assistance and the rules have been updated to indicate that. Please ensure that you cite your sources and use AI responsibly in your work if you so choose to use it! AI media (art, music, writing) is NOT allowed, however. If you're unsure if something crosses the line, feel free to ask.

Yes of course!

Yes, that is allowed!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I don’t know the last time I’ve smiled so much playing a video game. I actually really enjoyed the turn-based combat + befriend mechanic, and I found the characters and dialogue especially charming. I’m sad that the game may forever stay a demo (#unthawpizzaguy), but am excited to see whatever you choose to work on in the future!

⚠️ Trouble Loading the Game or lag? If the game appears stuck or fails to load, try these steps:

  1. Refresh the page: especially for trouble loading
  2. If it still doesn’t work, try this alternate version: 👉 https://ophi-0.itch.io/to-turn-a-new-leaf-lite (lower performance but more stable)

This alternate version is functionally identical, just optimized for devices with lower memory or slower browsers. If you’re on mobile, older PCs, or have a lot of tabs open, I highly recommend using it!

🔎 Need help figuring out if it's just your device?
I've uploaded a short gameplay video showing how the game should run normally.
You can use it as a reference to check if your experience is slower than intended!

Thank you so much for playing 💛
