So, this exact issue was occurring with me, but I did some experimenting. It only really happened with my most recent save at the time, which was saved on the "You've finished Kate's Story!" screen. Instead of clicking forward, as is habit, I instead chose to click the little "door" button on the bottom of the screen, taking me to the front door, where I then went back to the lobby. From then on, the game took over, and the updated version began playing as intended. I hope this solves your own issue.

seen others post similarly, but i'll take my shot now. i've never considered making an account before playing this game, but figured i had to in order to communicate what i thought.
i downloaded this game to beat my meat like a five dollar hooker, but ended up playing primarily for the story and character development. you wrote some incredibly complex, interesting, and easily likeable characters. i found myself falling in love with each character, enjoying the plot, and even laughing at the humor (which is rare in these kinds of games). now i've finished the story (thus far) and am anxious for the next release. well done.
and your music tase is pretty great LOL i've been bopping cassinello for the last couple of days.
