Reloading the game a few days later seems to have fixed it.

No idea which version. I played yesterday. After the two training missions I went straight to the village mission via the dialogue options and lost on the second goblin wave. Went back to the training area and there was no Map option to get out of the training area. I figured it wouldn't have been an issue if I had chosen a different option, but I didn't want to restart.

Fun loop. Died at some point fighting goblins and got sent back to the training yard. I never got access to the map though so I can't really do anything anymore.

A great game.
