I'm talking about the free form stat raising kind. A story with multiple layers, that can only be experienced fully with many play through. Each character has its own branching narrative. The idea can also be done in an episodic way.

Dating sims are a type of VN. Those count right? Even if they have a lot of gamey mechanics.
